A fan inspired by The Batman’s grit has created a crossover poster that mashes Bruce Wayne’s suit with Daredevil’s more practical costume from the Netflix series. Matt Reeves’ DC reboot starring Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader was released in theaters earlier this month. In addition to Pattinson, the film stars Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Lieutenant James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler.

Following in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan’s pre-DCEU Dark Knight trilogy, The Batman introduces many well-known DC characters to perhaps the most grounded and gritty version of Gotham yet. Inspired by comics like Batman: Year One and The Long HalloweenThe Batman focuses on Bruce Wayne’s second year as the city’s vengeful vigilante as he hunts the Zodiac killer-esque Riddler. Filled with murder, mayhem, and hallway fights not dissimilar to Daredevil‘s signature brawls, The Batman has quickly become one of the darkest and most critically acclaimed DC films ever.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the wake of The Batman’s release, artist Venomhology on Instagram recently shared a poster crossing over the titular hero with Daredevil. The piece sees Pattinson’s Batman costume spliced with the non-bulletproof outfit Charlie Cox wears in season 1 and season 3 of the show. They’re set against a backdrop adorned with question marks and a bullseyea reference to their respective villains. Check it out below:

Long before The Batman was released in theaters, Daredevil defended his dark and grounded corner of the MCU on Netflix. Despite the series’ positive reception and fan campaigns with hashtags like #SaveDaredevil, Disney/Marvel Studios ended their relationship with Netflix/ABC in 2018, effectively ending the show. However, last year, Cox made his big-screen debut as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home while Daredevil’s adversary, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, appeared in Disney+’s Hawkeye. Now, fans wonder if/when/how Marvel Studios/Disney will incorporate the darker, more mature Defenders into the MCU.

Every season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and The Defenders (and ABC’s Agents of Shield) is now available to stream on Disney+. The streaming service has even changed its parental settings to accommodate TV-MA superheroes, which bodes well for the future of previously Fox-owned characters like Deadpool in the MCU. The Batmans gritty universe will also continue on HBO Max with the upcoming Arkham Asylum and Penguin spinoffs. Reports indicate Daredevil is receiving an MCU reboot. Hopefully, that version of the character will put Marvel back on a similar playing field as DC in terms of grit.
