These days, it seems like everyone is interested in a new or hidden-gem movie that involves diabolical serial killers. People are intrigued yet disgusted by the real-life and fictional stories of killers that could be living right down the street.

Thankfully, movie fans can enjoy the horror sub-genre in the comforts of their own homes by using Hulu. This streaming service is known for its great movie and TV picks, and in this case, Hulu offers several well-rated options that will terrify and interest true-crime fans for hours on end. Whatever kind of serial killer style appeals to each viewer, Hulu has it covered.

10 Trick (4.9)

My Bloody Valentine’s Patrick Lussier directed 2019’s Trick, a movie that centers around a deranged high school senior named Patrick “Trick” Weaver (Thom Niemann). After being made fun of at a Halloween party, Trick stabs five teens while getting stabbed himself in the process.

Trick is admitted into the hospital, and after refusing to take off his mask, he escapes the clutches of Detective Mike Denver (Omar Epps). A year later, Trick continues his bloody rampage and picks up devotees in the process. Trick pays homage to classic horror movies like Halloween, where the killer is a man, but he’s hard to kill and hard to catch.

9 Virtuosity (5.6)

Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington star in Virtuosity, a movie about a law enforcement technology center that has recently developed a virtual reality entity. The kicker? It’s set up with a combined personality taken from 150 serial killers. To use it for a police training system, they must use it on a test subject, ex-cop Parker Barnes (Washington).

They don’t know that the system, SID version 6.7 (Crowe), has devious plans to expand the personality into an android, and Barnes is the only one who can stop it. The movie explores a futuristic virtual fantasy that is equal parts action and sci-fi. Virtuosity might not be on the top 10 list of Russell Crowe’s most villainous movies, but it should be.

8 The January Man (5.6)

The January Man centers on a serial killer who’s on the run and impossible to catch. Nick Starkey, played by Kevin Kline, is a down on his luck ex-cop from the NYPD, who was forced to leave his job due to a scandal.

After Starkey’s boss realizes they need him back to catch the killer, he agrees to come back and uncover the secret of where he’ll strike next.

7 The Postcard Killings (5.7)

The Postcard Killings is a 2020 crime drama based on the James Patterson novel that centers on a New York detective named Jacob Kanon (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Kanon is investigating the murder of his daughter and her new husband after they were found brutalized during their honeymoon. He realizes a serial killer is moving across Europe, and their signature move? A picture postcard.

The Postcard Killings dives into the human psyche of childhood trauma and the classic wolf in sheep’s clothing. Even though the movie isn’t among Morgan’s best movies, it definitely isn’t close behind.

6 My Friend Dahmer (6.2)

My Friend Dahmer reaches into the real-life story of sadistic serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and focuses on his younger years and his struggle to belong in high school.

5 The Clovehitch Killer (6.6)

In The Clovehitch Killer, a teenage boy named Tyler Burnside (Charlie Plummer) discovers a revolting secret about his upstanding father named Don Burnside (Dylan McDermott).

The Burnside family is rocked by Don’s secret life and the possessions he keeps hidden. With underlining tension and an excellent storyline, The Clovehitch Killer is one to see if viewers like a good crime drama.

4 From Hell (6.8)

From Hell is a 2001 horror movie that is loosely based on a graphic novel by the same name. The movie centers on the Jack the Ripper murders and stars Johnny Depp and Heather Graham.

Set in Victorian-era London, an Inspector named Frederick Abberline (Depp) investigates a string of grisly murders allegedly committed by a mysterious figure the locals call the Ripper. With the Ripper now setting his sights on Mary Kelly (Graham), Abberline knows it’s time to find the killer once and for all.

3 The House That Jack Built (6.8)

The House That Jack Built is directed by Lars von Trier, a director best known for his intense art filmsKnown as a horror crime-drama, the story follows Jack (Matt Dillon), a brilliant serial killer living in the 1970s.

Over a 12-year span, the movie highlights Jack’s journey to becoming a serial killer and the risks he continues to take to feed the monster inside him. Prepare for extreme violence, but a movie that will make viewers think, nonetheless.

2 Identity (7.3)

Identity is a 2003 gem that centers on a group of people stranded at a desolate Nevada motel. As the strangers get to know one another during a rainstorm, they realize a killer is among them, taking them out, one by one.

1 Prisoners (8.1)

Considered one of Hugh Jackman’s best movies, Prisoners centers on a man named Keller Dover (Jackman) whose daughter Anna (Erin Gerasimovich) has just gone missing. Dover takes matters into his own hands after the cops aren’t doing enough and will stop at nothing to bring his little girl back.

Prisoners is a suspenseful ride with great acting, a complex storyline, and is one of the best serial killer movies on Hulu.
