Everyone knows Tom Felton as the slimy little Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter franchise. His role as the school bully is a memorable one, thanks to his excellent performance, and it’s something he should be proud of. However, he has participated in other projects, too.

Tom Felton already has a huge number of acting credits to his name, only eight of which are the Harry Potter movies. The others range drastically in genre, style, and quality. For this list, however, the movies will be narrowed down to just his best, according to viewer ratings on IMDb.

Updated on December 30th, 2020 by Svetlana Sterlin: Harry Potter gets more and more popular with each passing year, even though the books have all been adapted. In fact, the franchise continues to expand beyond its source material, with the Fantastic Beasts movies, Pottermore, and stories about the adventures of the Harry Potter characters’ children. Tom Felton has also grown as an actor, though Wizarding World fans will likely always remember him as the villainous Draco Malfoy. Here are five more of his top-rated movies according to the scores on IMDb.

15 The Borrowers (1997) – 5.9

The Borrowers is a family fantasy movie in which a young Tom Felton stars as Peagreen Clock, a member of a tiny family – literally, they’re all four inches tall.

They live beneath the floorboards of a regular-sized family, who are in trouble when a lawyer plans to destroy their home to build a complex in its place. The miniature family fights to save the house. An animated movie was made in 2010, called The Secret Life Of Arrietty.

14 The Disappeared (2008) – 5.9

The Disappeared is a psychological thriller and horror movie that begins when the protagonist, Matthew, is released from a psychiatric facility to which he was sent following a mental breakdown. He feels guilty about the disappearance of his younger brother, so he seeks advice from his friend Simon (Felton).

Matthew also goes to a priest and a neighbor for help. Soon, Simon’s younger sister Sophie (Georgia Groome) also goes missing. Matthew then begins his own investigations and is helped by a psychic.

13 In Secret (2013) – 6.1

Felton’s character is a mild-mannered man living in lower-class Paris in the 1860s. The film is based on the classic novel by Émile Zola, published in 1867.

12 Feed (2017) – 6.2

Feed is one of Tom Felton’s most recent projects, released in 2017. Felton stars alongside Troian Bellisario as Matt, one half of a pair of mentally connected twins. The film isn’t well-known, but it received some decent reviews from those who have seen it.

Viewers seemed to connect with the movie’s themes and called its depiction of eating disorders highly realistic and troubling to witness. If you’re a fan of Tom Felton, this may be a film worth seeing, but note the trigger warning.

11 Risen (2016) – 6.3

Risen is probably one of Tom Felton’s most well-known post-Harry Potter roles. It tells the intriguing biblical story of the Resurrection. Felton stars as Lucius, the aide to Joseph Fiennes’ Clavius who is tasked with finding the body of Jesus Christ to prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.

The movie has an intriguing core message, though the performances alone are enough to warrant a watch. It’s no Passion of the Christ, but still one of Felton’s top-rated films.

10 Message From The King (2016) – 6.4

This film recently made its way to Netflix, and it belongs to Chadwick Boseman in terms of performance, but Tom Felton also has a credit for his role as Frankie, a drug dealer.

Message From The King is a revenge-action-thriller about Jacob King, who lives in Cape Town but travels to Los Angeles to meet his estranged sister’s family after receiving a message from her. Frankie comes into the story when King learns that his sister has been involved with the dealer’s gang.

9 Get Him To The Greek (2010) – 6.4

Jonah Hill and Russell Brand star in this comedy. Hill’s Aaron works for a record company, which is affected by a recession. His father asks him to book music star Aldous Snow (Brand) for their show, but he only has 72 hours to get him from London to LA.

Tom Felton appears in a cameo role as himself, one of the funnier moments of the film. Rose Byrne also stars as Jackie Q, and stars like Christina Aguilera also make cameo appearances.

8 Against The Sun (2014) – 6.5

Against the Sun is a biographical drama based on a true story of World War II. The cast is relatively small, consisting of Tom Felton, Jake Abel, and Garret Dillahunt. The three of them star as U.S. Navy airmen who are shot down and stranded in the South Pacific. It’s a survival story, but it’s a character study at heart.

Their performances carry what is otherwise a forgettable and cliché survival story, and aside from some particularly poor visual effects, there’s little else to see in Against the Sun.

7 Ophelia (2018) – 6.7

Tom Felton seems to have a thing for period pieces. Ophelia is based on a highly intriguing concept, as it re-imagines Shakespeare’s classic Hamlet from the perspective of Ophelia.

Ophelia is portrayed by Star Wars‘ Daisy Ridley, while Tom Felton portrays Ophelia’s brother, Laertes. While some criticized the acting and the entire concept of re-writing one of the best plays of all time, others found it to be an enjoyable and imaginative re-telling of a classic.

6 From The Rough (2013) – 6.7

Evidently, few people have seen From the Rough; the film has fewer than 1,000 user reviews on IMDb. Those who have seen it seem to have enjoyed it, giving it an average of 6.7 out of 10. The film tells the real story of Catana Starks (no, not Catelyn Stark), the first woman to coach a men’s college golf club.

Playing Catana is acclaimed actress Taraji P. Henson, while Felton plays the disrespectful Edward. It’s an endearing biopic, and while it’s not on the level of Remember The Titans it’s worth a watch for those interested in college sports history.

5 Anna And The King (1999) – 6.7

Anna and the King is a very special movie in Tom Felton’s filmography, as it was released before Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Released back in 1999, this movie stars Jodie Foster as Anna Leonowens, an English school teacher who taught the children and wives of King Mongkut, the fourth monarch of Siam.

The story is better known as The King And I. The then-12-year-old Tom Felton starred as Anna’s son, Louis. It’s certainly not as iconic as The King And I, but it makes for a respectable movie adaptation nonetheless.

4 A United Kingdom (2016) – 6.8

Tom Felton doesn’t have a huge role in 2016’s A United Kingdom, but it’s still worth mentioning nonetheless. This is a biographical drama about the heir of Botswana (played by David Oyelowo) and his wife, Ruth Williams Khama (Rosamund Pike).

Their interracial relationship proved highly controversial and ignited a political and diplomatic firestorm. It’s a powerful movie that proves to be just as entertaining as it is important and necessary.

3 Megan Leavey (2017) –  7.1

Breaking the seemingly elusive 7/10 barrier is Megan Leavey, yet another biographical drama, also known as Rex. This one stars House of Cards‘s Kate Mara as Megan Leavey, a Marine corporal, and K9 handler. Leavey and her dog, Rex, saved many lives throughout their two deployments in Iraq.

They were both injured in an explosion, and Leavey was awarded the Purple Heart for her efforts and sacrifice. The movie was acclaimed for its heart-melting true story, solid performances, and emotional maturity. It’s not a typical military movie, but that only makes it unique.

2 Belle (2013) – 7.3

Tom Felton seems to be typecast after his role as Malfoy. He portrays another unlikeable character in Belle, a period drama about the life of British heiress Dido Elizabeth Belle.

Belle was born into slavery but quickly found herself a member of the Royal family when her father, Royal Navy officer John Lindsay, brought her back to England in 1765. Despite being highly fictionalized, the movie makes for some riveting drama. Felton plays James Ashford, a man who shows contempt towards Belle for her mixed-race heritage.

1 Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011) – 7.6

When it comes to Felton’s post-Harry Potter roles, they don’t get any bigger than Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This was the first movie in the rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy, and it stars James Franco as a scientist who takes a personal liking to a test chimpanzee named Caesar.

Felton plays Dodge Landon, an abusive animal caretaker. The movie was widely praised upon its release and is regarded as a solid addition to one of the greatest series of recent years.
