The Bold Type: 10 Unanswered Questions After Watching The Season 4 Finale

The Bold Type premiered on Freeform in 2017 and quickly became a critical darling for the Walt Disney Company-owned cable channel.  The series follows three best friends as they navigate the cutthroat world of the fashion magazine industry while also juggling their personal lives.

The Bold Type recently wrapped up its fourth season, though, like many shows this year the season was cut short due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Many fans were left unsatisfied and with several questions given the fact that the series ended without a proper resolution to several story points. Here are ten of the unanswered questions fans hope to get answered if the show gets picked up for a fifth season.

10 Will Sutton And Richard Get Back Together?

Sutton Brady and Richard have been through their fair share of ups and downs this season. After starting the season off in a long-distance relationship, the pair decided to officially tie the knot. Later, Sutton suffers a miscarriage later on in the season which makes her realize that she doesn’t want to be a mom.

At the end of season 4, Richard has left Sutton after finding out that they’re not on the same page when it comes to parenthood. From the looks of the ending, it seems like these two are done for good, but fans are staying hopeful.

9 Is Ryan “Pinstripe” Ever Coming Back?

Jane and Ryan have had a rollercoaster relationship. At the start of this season, Jane was trying to give Ryan a second chance after learning that he cheated on her, but when the full truth came out Jane had no choice but to officially end their relationship.

When the fourth season picked back up in Jane, Ryan was notably absent from the series. Though he did send Jane a few texts as she recovered from her double mastectomy surgery, he never made an onscreen appearance. This leaves fans wondering if he’ll ever return.

8 Will Kat Get Rehired At Scarlett?

Kat Edison has long since been Scarlett Magazine’s social media darling, well, that is until this season. After uncovering some extremely problematic information about a member of the Safford board, Kat decides she needs to take action. Ultimately, Kat ends up getting fired and the second half of the season follows Kat as she tries to figure out what’s next.

While fans have enjoyed watching Kat explore what’s beyond the Scarlett office, the show just doesn’t feel the same without the trio hiding out in the fashion closet.

7 Is Scott Going To Quit To Date Jane?

During the second half of the season, Jane gets a new love interest, Scott, who also happens a writer she employed for her new vertical.

Dating your co-workers is one thing, but dating your employees is a whole other issue. Towards the end of the season, Jane does tell Scott that she can’t date him since she’s his boss but she didn’t say she wouldn’t date him period. Fans have been wondering if Scott will be willing to quit to pursue a relationship with Jane.

6 Will Jacqueline and Ian’s Relationship Suffer Because Of Jane’s Story?

Scarlett’s empowering Editor-in-Chief Jacqueline Carlyle and her husband Ian have previously been “relationship goals” but that changed this season. The two ends up separated before agreeing to pursue couples therapy in an attempt to save their marriage.

After learning that one of the subjects of Jane’s story had a fling with Ian while they were separated, Jacqueline kills the story. However, she ends up reversing her decision in the finale. With the decision to pursue the story, many fans are wondering if this will lead to the end of Jacqueline and Ian’s marriage for good.

5 Is Sutton Going To Have To Move Out?

With Richard fleeing their shared apartment after learning that Sutton doesn’t want to be a mother, Sutton is left alone in a city she loves but an apartment that doesn’t feel like home. Despite getting a promotion this season, it seems unlikely that Sutton could afford to stay living in the apartment Richard and her shared, nor would she want to.

With Sutton’s future with Richard up in the air, fans are curious to see what happens next, especially when it comes to where she’s going to live. Perhaps, Sutton will move back in with her best friends.

4 Will Kat Continue To Do The Podcast At The Bell?

Determined to continue making a difference in the world, Kat convinces the manager at The Bell to let her launch her own podcast. With one shot to make a good impression, Kat decides to invite Ava, a conservative, to be her first guest. The two hit it off in and the first episode is amazing; however, some of The Bell members aren’t thrilled that their safe place gave a conservative woman a platform.

By the end of the season, Kat finds herself stuck in the middle as she begins to lose creative freedom over who she can interview.

3 Where Is Adena?

Adena has long been a fan favorite on The Bold Type. While she did make an appearance in the first half of the season, she was notably missing from the second half. This is extremely weird given that Adena now works at Scarlett as a photographer, surely she should have been featured in the background somewhere.

While Adena and Kat may not be endgame, fans truly do miss Adena’s presence and are wondering where she went and will she return.

2 Is Sutton Going To Turn Into Her Mother?

Sutton’s had a hell of a year and it only got worse as the season progressed. In the finale, Richard has left Sutton after learning she doesn’t want to be a mother which completely breaks Sutton. In order to put herself back together, she travels home to connect with her newly sober mom. However, things don’t go as planned as Sutton realizes that her mother has fallen back into her old ways.

When Sutton returns to Jane’s apartment, she is more broken than ever but she hides her pain behind a bottle of alcohol. Not only is this scene heartbreaking, but it also has fans worried that Sutton may follow in her mom’s addiction footsteps.

1 Are Kat And Ava Going To Make Their Relationship Official?

Kat has had her fair share of relationships over the years. And while fans are usually at odds fighting over who they think she deserves to be with, they all seem to be united on the fact that Ave is not it. Not only are Kat and Ava political enemies, Kat literally got Ava’s father fired from Stafford.

Despite this, the two end up hooking up and even begin defending each other to their friends and peers. The sudden change in their attitudes towards one another has fans wondering if these two are going to make their relationship official if there is a fifth season.
