Warning! Spoilers for The Boys comic and television series below.

Homelander and Stormfront are among the most powerful, dangerous supes in the entire The Boys universe. Both heroes have God-like powers and often use them in vile, non-heroic ways. In the comics, their connection runs so deep, that Homelander’s entire existence is thanks to his fellow hero as he was actually made from Stormfront’s DNA.

Homelander is the big villain in both The Boys comic and television series. While there are some changes made to the character in the wildly-popular Amazon series, he’s largely retained the core traits of his comic book counterpart. Stormfront, meanwhile, was gender-flipped in the television series, and the character’s Nazi connections – while prevalent – weren’t as blatant as the Swastika cape-wearing Stormfront in the pages of The Boys. However, Homelander’s origin being tied to Stormfront wasn’t adapted on the show… yet.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the comic series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Homelander’s creation was directly connected to that of Stormfront. As the Nazi was the first Supe in the world, his DNA was used in the creation of Homelander. While he isn’t a clone in the same way that another character from The Boys is, Homelander’s creation and DNA is directly tied to the worst superhero ever conceived. He’s part Stormfront and his powers and abilities were conceived from his Nazi counterpart.

It’s a twist that makes Homelander’s entire origin somehow even more disturbing than it originally was. Not only was he conceived in a lab with Compound V, but the DNA used in his creation was from a literal superpowered Nazi. It’s no wonder Homelander has such a messed up view of reality and his behavior is completely unpredictable – it’s in his DNA. It’s easy to see why the television series gender-flipped Stormfront and changed the character pretty drastically. While she kept her worst personality traits and Nazi ties, she became a romantic interest to Homelander instead of part of his origin. Although, it’s fully possible The Boys will still later reveal that she is related to Homelander via DNA, which would be highly disturbing.

In the comics, without Stormfront, there’s no Homelander. Whether he likes it or not, his powers and origin were forever tied to the Nazi and ultimately, so is his heritage. Time will tell if the show will pull the rug under Homelander now that Stormfront has been taken down. If you thought things were dark in The Boys before, things can get much darker.
