The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke believes that Homelander (Anthony Starr) could easily defeat DC’s Superman. Amazon Prime’s live-action superhero series is known for regularly skewering well-known tropes of the comic book genre, including archetypical characters from the Marvel and DC universes. The second season premiered in 2020, with The Boys season 3 currently on the way.

Although The Boys lampoons anything and everything from the superhero genre, one of the clearest analogs depicted in the show is the Homelander vs. Superman comparison. Both are caped leaders of powerful superhero teams, with Homelander leading The Seven and Superman leading the Justice League, and both are arguably the two most powerful heroes in their respective universes. However, while Superman is a paragon of heroism, Homelander’s image is largely a façade belying his murderous, sociopathic tendencies.

With the The Boys season 3 getting closer and closer every day, showrunner Eric Kripke has started to get fans hyped for the return to the darkly satirical superhero universe. In fact, speaking with The Illuminerdi in a recent interview, Kripke revealed that he thinks Homelander would beat DC’s Superman in a fight because the former is not constrained by the latter’s moral code. Kripke explained:

“I mean it’s definitely Homelander because Superman has morals and Homelander is like a hardcore sociopath. So, it’s like Homelander has no problem ripping off Superman’s testicles, like zero. And Superman’s gonna be like punching above the belt. So, it’s kind of not a contest.”

One of the defining elements of Superman’s persona is the strict moral code that he carries into battle with him. In most depictions, he refuses to kill, and he often pulls his punches in battle. Homelander, on the other hand, has a power set similar to Superman (flight, super strength, laser eyes, etc.) but is not constricted by that moral code. In the universe of The Boys, Homelander (and all other members of The Seven) are known as killers. Couple that with the fact that Homelander does not have a known fatal weakness, and Eric Kripke seems to think the blond superhero would easily take out the Man of Steel.

Though an on-screen Marvel and DC crossover event seems like something that could potentially happen someday, a crossover between The Boys universe and the DC world seems a bit more unlikely. As such, it’s difficult to determine whether or not a fight like this could ever happen on the big or small screen. That said, fan enthusiasm counts for a lot these days, so one is left to wonder if this crossover could possibly happen if audiences generate enough support for it. Until then, audiences will have to wait and see what Homelander does next in his own universe when season 3 of The Boysdebuts on Amazon Prime.
