Warning! Spoilers for The Boys comic book and television series below.

In The Boys universe, there are a ton of supes with jaw-dropping powers who demand the respect of their opponents and fellow heroes. Soldier Boy isn’t one of them. The Captain America analog couldn’t be further from the character he was parodying as Soldier Boy’s entire existence in The Boys comics is as a joke to the rest of the world.

Soldier Boy first appeared in Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s wild Herogasm storyline in The Boys. Introduced as a hero who would do anything to join The Seven, his time in the comics was short-lived as his fellow superheroes found him to be stupid and expendable while The Boys themselves used Soldier Boy to extract information on their superpowered opponents. The character is so unbelievably incompetent and cowardly, it would be surprising to see the version that is set to appear in The Boys streaming series (played by Jensen Ackles) be exactly like his comic counterpart.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In The Boys comic book series, Soldier Boy is actually a legacy hero whose roots partially explain why he turned out the way he did. The first Soldier Boy was responsible for leading the Avenging Squad (the first heroic super team in The Boys universe) during World War II – with the entire team being brutally killed in battle, largely thanks to their unpreparedness. The modern Soldier Boy is introduced in the Herogasm storyline, where he’s tricked into having intercourse with Homelander, as he believes giving him a good enough time will lead him to get a spot on The Seven.

Homelander uses Soldier Boy’s desperation to make it onto The Seven for his own personal gain. Later, Soldier Boy is given the important job of helping to track down The Boys for Vought-American with the Payback team, but, as with the former Soldier Boy, the mission is a massive failure. Soldier Boy gets his nose bitten off before the entire team is killed by Butcher and his crew. He’s last shown getting brutally tortured by Butcher for information on Vought and is never seen again.

In his short time in the comics, Soldier Boy is shown to be a complete moron. He is viewed as a joke to his fellow heroes, pisses himself when he’s in trouble, is shown being completely incapable of taking on tougher opponents, and is easily manipulated into sexual favors thinking that will somehow get him in The Seven. Ultimately, Soldier Boy was both a terrible hero and an idiot, and his incompetence eventually led to his death before he could even get in the front door of The Seven. No character is more embarrassing in The Boys universe.
