The winners of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 were this season’s underdogs. The finale was a nail-biter as fans watched as the two teams fought it out for a win. In the end, the stronger – though maybe unexpected – teamed prevailed.

The MTV series was first aired as a spinoff in 1990, combining The Real World and Road Rules to make one super competition with its cast of reality stars. At the start of each season, contestants are placed into teams, then put head-to-head in physical and mental challenges. The goal for each season is to have made it to the finale, where the only remaining cast member wins a cash prize and bragging rights.

On the first-ever USA versus United Kingdom Challenge, the underdogs came out on top. Even though the USA team dominated the whole season, they paid for their bad decisions of cutting their strongest players in the end and loosing out on one million dollars. The American team won most of the weekly challenges, only to come short in the last challenge in the finale of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2. The champions ended up being Dee Nguyen, Jordan Wiseley, C.T. Tamburello, and Rogan O’Connor, who was the only actual British native to represent the Queen. The rest of the motley crew was made up of two Australians and two Americans.

The final challenge took place over two days and involved a six-mile walk while carrying a gurney and sleeping one at a time with a put full of snakes. At the end of the first day, each team had to knock their team numbers down to five members during an intense puzzle challenge. The American’s lost Ashley Mitchell, Kam Williams, and Leroy Garrett, while the United Kingdom lost Tori Deal. Team U.K. started the second day with a ten-minute head start, which helped the group gain a strong lead while running through the sand in a chain gang. The climax occurred when the two teams met on the water’s edge and all that was between them and the money was, yet again, another puzzle. Cara Maria Sorbello broke down when her team pulled apart pieces she had fit together, throwing a crying fit which led to the U.K. team gaining confidence and pulling off the win.

The win came as a shocker to most fans of the hit show, but it was also well deserved. Both Jordon and C.T. have now won three times, while it was the first win for Dee and Rogan. It was a special win for Rogan, as last season he was the first player out of the Challenge: Vendettas when he passed out running up a mountain. Fans are hoping that, with the success of the first season, MTV will bring back a second season of the two countries going head-to-head.
