Host TJ Lavin introduced a new rookie to season 37 of The Challenge, but what do MTV fans need to remember about Ed Eason from The Circle season 1? Viewers can already see Ed is handsome and fit, so it shouldn’t be an issue for him to go far within the game.

The Challenge has been a staple show on MTV for decades now. The original show premiered back in 1998 and featured popular characters from The Real World. In recent years, the network has added some talent from MTV UK and other popular competition shows like Big Brother and Survivor. Fan favorites like CT Tamburello and Nany Gonzalez have returned for season 37, as well as some fresh meat to spice up the house. This season, rookie Ed strolled onto the scene at the end of the premiere episode after Nam Vo was deactivated and had to leave. While Ed is new to the world of The Challenge, Netflix viewers are sure to recognize him.

Ed was full of energy when he appeared to take Nam’s place. He looks cocky and strong, which should make for a great mix within the house. Ed is 25, a young buck compared to a few veterans, and hails from Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. But many fans may already recognize Ed from The Circle. Ed appeared on The Circle season 1 alongside his mom, Tammy. Ed created a profile with his own photos and personality, but his mom got a 50% say in everything he posted while playing the game.

Unfortunately, even Ed and Tammy’s combined efforts weren’t enough to win them the $100,000 grand prize. They entered the competition late and only managed to get through three episodes before they were eliminated. However, becoming reality TV stars continues to be a family affair for the Easons, as Ed’s brother, Mitchell, starred in season 2 of the Netflix series. Like his mother and brother before him, Mitchell was unable to secure the prize money.

While the two shows may seem lightyears apart, both have a bit in common, mainly in that they require a good strategy. Within The Challenge, players must have some sort of alliance to get to the end, and the same could be said for Ed’s previous reality TV stint. Though there may not have been a physical competition in The Circle, the mental challenge is there for both shows. Netflix viewers think Ed will be able to play the system well when it comes to Spies, Lie, & Allies.

The Challenge Spies, Lies, and Allies airs Wednesday at 8 PM ET on MTV.
