On The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies, some of the rookie women have begun targeting veteran and former Big Brother contestant Amber Borzotra, but it’s not exactly clear why they have such a problem with the reigning champ. Though their motives are a mystery to most fans, there are a few reasons why they might feel the need to go after Amber. It’s not the smartest move to target such a high-profile player, but a few of the rookie women seem determined to get her out of the game anyway.

Amber joined this season of The Challenge partway through after one of the rookies was deactivated and removed from the show. Drama quickly developed around Amber after her supposed ally Fessy Shafaat broke the veteran alliance and sent her into elimination. Last season, Amber won The Challenge when no one was expecting it, and many of her castmates are likely eager to see her leave. However, Amber came back from elimination with a vengeance, and in a recent episode, tensions boiled over resulting in a major house fight. Fessy laid hands on Josh Martinez, and Fessy’s partner Esther Agunbiade threw her drink in Amber’s face.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Esther and fellow rookie Berna Canbeldek called Amber “fake” and “a pretender” and claimed she started the fight that culminated in Fessy’s expulsion from the competition. But it was veterans Tori Deal and Cory Wharton who instigated the fight with a misplaced prank regarding a frozen pizza. Also, so far Amber has been conducting herself with class. She didn’t escalate things when she had a drink thrown in her face and instead spoke to the Challenge rookies Berna and Esther about why women shouldn’t tear other women down. Amber’s cool head only made Berna and Esther’s volatility look worse.

However, viewers don’t always get the complete picture. It’s possible Amber is getting a good edit, and her more objectionable behavior and comments aren’t being shown. It’s not uncommon on reality shows for producers to reframe the story however they like, and viewers are often misled. Or course, the more obvious answer is Esther and Berna are jealous and feel threatened by Amber. After winning last season, Amber sent waves through the veteran group when she arrived, and it didn’t go unnoticed by the rookies.

If TheChallenge: Spies, Lies & Allies rookies want a shot at winning, they can’t let fear get the better of them, and it sure seems like some of the rookie women are seriously intimidated by Amber. It’s possible there are things viewers aren’t seeing that would explain Esther and Berna’s point of view. But they’re probably just scared when confronted with a strong vet who won’t stoop to their level.

The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
