Netflix’s controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why dropped its fourth and final season on June 5th.  The series follows the aftermath of the third season which saw the teenage ensemble cast covering up a murder to protect one of their best friends.

While the show may have a rocky relationship with critics and the public there’s no denying that it has amassed a dedicated fan base who have watched the series for the past four years. Part of the appeal of this show is its interesting and diverse ensemble cast of characters. The truth it some of the characters are better than others which is why we’ll be ranking them from annoying to awesome.

10 Ani Achola

Most fans would agree that Ani Achola was the most annoying and unnecessary character of the entire 13 Reasons Why franchise. She joined the cast late and became the narrator during the third season despite just coming into the picture. Fans were adamant about their annoyance with her on social media. Not only did Ani manage to steal the spotlight from the core cast, but she also created more problems than she ever solved. She ended up befriending Bryce Walker who was hated by her friend group for a myriad of reasons. She was nothing more than an annoying pain that we had to put up with.

9 Winston

Winston had a few brief appearances in the third season but was upgraded to a series regular for the fourth and final season. Honestly, we’re not a fan of Winson either. His primary role this season was to get revenge on whoever framed Monty for the death of Bryce. However, his motivations made no sense considering he’d only know Monty for a short amount of time and he kept denying his feelings for him. He spent most of the final season getting close to the main group of students to find out the truth while also alienating himself by being so hell-bent on solving the case that no one cared about.

8 Zach Dempsey

Zach Dempsey started out the series as a strong character who had good intentions but during this final season, he took a turn for the worse. The once kind and helpful jock spent the entire season drinking, having sex, and just being plain obnoxious to everyone he came in contact with.

To be fair, he was going through a lot after having his athletic future ruined at the end of last season but that still didn’t justify his reckless, selfish, and annoying presence this season.

7 Clay Jenson

Clay Jenson might be the main character of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why franchise but that doesn’t mean he’s exempt from being annoying. In fact, Clay Jenson is annoying most of the time. He spent the entire first season trying to seek revenge on everyone who wronged Hannah out of so-called love. While Clay got a bit better after that he still spent most of the series trying to seak revenge and whining about everyone else’s actions instead of dealing with his own issues. This season in particular Clay was a tad annoying because of his refusal to ask his friends for help when he clearly needed it.

6 Jessica Davis

The truth is fans of 13 Reasons Why either love or hate Jessica Davis, there is no in-between. While Jessica does a lot of the greatness of her heart there are times when her actions come off as annoying. Take this season for instance, instead of standing by her boyfriend and best friend’s side while he dealt with his sobriety, she decided to hook up with a jock who was trying to solve Monty’s murder case. She also alienated herself this season instead of confiding in her friends who have always been there for her.

5 Tyler Down

Tyler Down started the franchise out as the Liberty High stalker but over the remaining three seasons he transformed himself and became a really positive and strong character. Since then, Tyler has become one of the least annoying characters of the entire franchise.

Sure, he has his moments where he’s a bit too clingy and has a “woe is me” attitude but overall, Tyler is a great character. He loves photography and his friends and he’s there for them when they need him. Does he still have things to work on? Of course, but on a scale of annoying to awesome, Tyler lands closer to awesome.

4 Justin Foley

Justin Foley has had a rough go at life during 13 Reasons Why. Even though he could have become this insanely jaded and out-for-blood character, Justin has always remained a character who strived to live, love, and be a better person. Despite his flaws, he was always there for Clay and Jessica and whoever else needed him at that moment. He also underwent, arguably the best, character development of the entire cast. He’s also never been a character who sits around and whines about his problems instead he handles them and moves on.

3 Alex Standall

Some might think that Alex Standall is an annoying character because he’s always in a bad mood and indifferent to everything going on around him but we don’t think that’s true. While yes, Alex does have an attitude problem from time to time you would too if you’ve been through as much stuff as Alex had at only 18 years old. Alex definitely came into his own this season which is why he’s landed so high close to being the most awesome character of the franchise. This season Alex finally understood that he’s important and love and that he deserves to live a long and fulfilling life.

2 Tony Padilla

Tony Padilla has been the ride-or-die friend in this group from the very beginning. He’s the one who Hannah trusted to deliver and make sure everyone listened to her tapes. He’s the one who stepped in to help Clay during the first season when it was his turn to listen to the tapes. And he continued to be there for Clay and the rest of the group when they needed him. He helped Tyler get better after stopping him from being guns into the school dance. Even when his own life is falling apart, he’s there for his friends.

1 Charlie St. George

Charlie St. George is another new character but unlike the others, he completely blew us away and is definitely the most awesome character of this entire cast. Let’s face it, Charlie was just another jock in season 3. He could have agreed with everything Monty was saying and totally ignored the rest of the group but instead, he befriended them and even helped them cover up a murder when he didn’t have to. His awesomeness continued this season as we watched him support and fall in love with Alex. He was also always calling out his teammates when they were being sexist and even helped get Zach back on track.
