The first trailer for James Wan’s highly anticipated The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will officially be released tomorrow. This will be the eighth film in Wan’s spine-chilling horror series and the third installment of The Conjuring movies.

Following the lives of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively), The Conjuring series has ventured into some of the couple’s creepy encounters, including the spirit of a twisted Nun, a sinister doll (who went on to head her own set of movies) and countless haunted houses. And while Wan has taken on the role of director for the two previous chapters, he will now be handing over that responsibility to The Curse of La Llorona director Michael Chaves. So what changes can we expect from Chaves’s management and, more importantly, when do we get a taste of what’s to come?

John Squires of Bloody Disgusting shared with Twitter that he had received a promo package for the new flick, which included a note stating the time and date the trailer would be dropping: 9 AM ET on 4/22. It will be premiering on bloody-disgusting.com. The film itself will be on HBO and in theatres on June 4, 2021.

But the excitement doesn’t end there. A first look at the movie showcases Wilson and Farmiga’s return to the franchise along with an exclusive interview with Chaves, who compared the film to his and Wan’s shared favorite film Se7en. Starring alongside Wilson and Farmiga will be Ruairi O’Connor, who plays murderer Arne Johnson, as well as Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard. Chaves states that this installment is the “darkest” of them all, which is undoubtedly a weighty statement based on what the Warrens have fought before.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It has been in the works since 2017, when screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick first began on the script. Additionally, Wan detailed the plot in 2018, stating that it will depict “the first time in America’s history where the defendant used possessions as a reason, as an excuse [for murder],” so it’s fair to say this film has been a long time coming. Luckily, it doesn’t look like this will be the end of the road for the Warrens. It’s been teased that the ending of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do Itwill open up various possibilities for the horror universe’s future.
