Entourage creator Doug Ellin opens up about the possibility of a reboot, expressing his confidence it will happen one day in the future. The HBO comedy series centered on Vincent “Vinnie” Chase, a young A-list movie star as he attempts to make his way through the film industry with the help of his childhood friends Eric “E” Murphy, Salvatore “Turtle” Assante, brother Johnny “Drama” Chase and agent Ari Gold. The cast for Entourage was led by Adrian Grenier as Vinnie, Kevin Connolly as E, Jerry Ferrara as Turtle, Kevin Dillon as Drama and Jeremy Piven as Ari.

Premiering on HBO in 2004, Entourage proved to be a solid success for the network, scoring consistently strong ratings and primarily positive reviews for most of its eight-season run. The series would net 26 Primetime Emmy Award nominations during its lifetime, with Piven winning three consecutive Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series awards and Kevin Dillon earning three consecutive nominations. Following the generally mixed final two seasons of the series, Ellin confirmed a film continuation would occur, which would eventually hit theaters in 2015 with the entire main cast and majority of supporting and recurring stars returning.

Ellin recently appeared on Jeremy Piven’s podcast “How U Livin J. Piven” and discussed the possibility of an Entourage reboot. The creator confirmed he still gets calls from publications and celebrities asking about it as well as for a series set in their respective fields, be it sports or music, and expressed his confidence the reboot will happen one day, equating it to his confidence of developing the film. See what Ellin said below:

“The New York Post called me yesterday and I said, ‘I don’t have anything to say about it’ and then they basically hung up on me. That’s all they wanted to talk about, I’m like ‘I got a hot podcast, we’re doing live shows’ and they’re like, ‘Yeah, we’ll call you later.’ I always go, ‘It’s gonna happen, whether it’s three months or three years,’ I can feel it all just like I felt it last time. The biggest stars in the world still call me, they want me to do Entourage in their world. We’re talking in the music industry, in the sports industry, they still go ‘We want Entourage!’”

Talks of an Entourage reboot have been in the air since late last year when star Kevin Dillon confirmed he had been pushing Ellin to get to work on it and the discussion has only built up in the months since. Grenier has expressed a desire to return and says he has ideas of his own for Vinnie’s future with Ellin also stating he is ready to do it, though only if executive producer and series inspiration Mark Wahlberg returned to the fold. The creator’s latest comments might disappoint some to hear it may take three years for a new version of the series to get in the works, but the confidence he has it will get made should bring comfort to some.

Ellin’s comparison of his confidence to the making of the Entourage film may put some off, however, as it saw a largely mixed reception from critics and audiences alike and was a box office bomb. Additionally, while the cast and crew all seem ready to return to the world of the series, Ellin’s slamming of HBO for reportedly burying the series on HBO Max and blaming it on “this righteous wave of PC culture” does pose a huddle he and the network would likely have to overcome to bring the show back. Until news comes out about the series’ revival one way or another, fans can revisit all eight seasons of Entourage on HBO Max now.
