Warning: spoilers ahead for Eternals Forever #1!

The Uni-Mind is the Eternals’ ultimate form and it could potentially be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s greatest weapon. The Eternals will make their MCU debut this November, and Marvel has several series and one-shots featuring them coming ahead of the film’s release. Eternals Forever #1, on sale now in print and digital, shows the Uni-Mind’s awesome power.

While the Eternals are the newest additions to the MCU, their comic history stretches back nearly 50 years. Created by the legendary Jack Kirby, the Eternals were an offshoot of humanity created by the mysterious Celestials countless eons ago; their encounters with early humanity allegedly inspired numerous myths and legends. Readers met Ikaris, Sersi, Ajak, Gilgamesh, Makkari, and the rest of the Eternals, and learned of their struggle against the evil Deviants, another offshoot race spawned by the Celestials. In times of crisis, the Eternals can merge into a gestalt being called the Uni-Mind, combining the powers and memories of all within. The Uni-Mind is an impressive display of power, reserved only for the gravest of situations, and in Eternals Forever #1, readers get to see it in action. The issue is written by Ralph Macchio, with art by Ramon F. Bachs, colors by Rachelle Rosenberg and letters by Joe Caramagna.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ikaris, the leader of the Eternals, is captured by Ghaur, the Deviant warlord. Taken to Lemuria, the Deviant kingdom, Ikarus is conditioned to serve as a “Trojan Horse,” capable of leading Ghaur and his Deviant hordes to Olympia, home of the Eternals. Once he locates it, he orders the Deviants to attack. Overwhelmed by the Deviants’ sheer numbers, the Eternals, including Ikaris and Gilgamesh, merge into the Uni-Mind. The Uni-Mind is described as having “tendrils of unimaginable cosmic energies” and that it “has no equal anywhere on Earth;” it is successful in repelling the Deviants, sending them scrambling back to Lemuria.

There is no word if the Uni-Mind will appear in Eternals or not, but if it does, then it could be the MCU’s most powerful weapon. Any number of Eternals can come together to form the Uni-Mind, making it a grab bag of abilities. On top of that, it contains their memories as well, memories and wisdom that stretch back millions of years. Readers saw it decimate the Deviant army, which minutes earlier had been close to conquering Olympia. The Uni-Mind is a formidable weapon, and very few threats in the MCU stand a chance against it. Indeed, only entities working on a cosmic scale, such as Dormammu and fellow Eternal Thanos, could pose a threat to the Uni-Mind.

The Eternals, through Thanos, have already played a huge role in the MCU, and now they are poised to become an even bigger part of it moving forward. Eternals Forever # 1showcases one of the group’s most fascinating powers, one that positions them as a dominant force in the MCU.
