The Fast & Furious franchise – recently rebranded as The Fast Saga – is as much about family as it is about cars. Muscle cars and sports cars getting smashed up in increasingly creative ways might form the backbone of the series’ action sequences, but its central theme is family. Vin Diesel’s lead protagonist Dom Toretto has hammered this theme home in many a growly monologue over the years.

Being in a family largely revolves around just being there. In the Fast & Furious franchise, some of Dom’s surrogate family members are there a lot more than others (in terms of movie appearances).

10 Gisele Yashar (3)

Before she was known as Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe, Gal Gadot was known as Gisele Yashar in The Fast Saga. Gadot enjoyed a three-movie run in The Fast Saga, as Gisele was introduced in the fourth movie and made the ultimate sacrifice in the sixth.

During this time, Gisele became Han’s romantic interest and the two evolved into one of the most lovable couples in the franchise.

9 Ramsey (3)

Nathalie Emmanuel’s Ramsey was promptly embraced as a member of Dom’s family after being introduced in Furious 7. In The Fate of the Furious and F9, Dom’s crew has made use of Ramsey’s abilities as a computer hacker.

In F9, she became a third member of Tej and Roman’s comedic partnership. Their banter was always a lot of fun, but now, it’s complemented by Ramsey’s deadpan reactions.

8 Luke Hobbs (5)

Dwayne Johnson joined the Fast & Furious franchise in Fast Five. His badass government agent character, Luke Hobbs, quickly became a fan-favorite supporting player.

Johnson appeared in every Fast & Furious movie until he headlined his own spin-off alongside Jason Statham in Hobbs & Shaw. Since he was busy with the spin-off, he didn’t appear in F9, but with any luck, he’ll find time to make an appearance in the series’ upcoming two-part finale.

7 Han Lue (5)

Sung Kang’s Han was initially introduced to the Fast & Furious universe in Tokyo Drift. In that movie, he was seemingly killed off, but after that, the series took an awkward structure that allowed Han to appear in a few films. Finally, his death was readdressed with the inclusion of Jason Statham’s villain Deckard Shaw as Han’s supposed killer.

The years-long #JusticeForHan campaign was finally paid off when F9 brought the character back. Following this triumphant resurrection, Han surely has a bright future in The Fast Saga.

6 Roman Pearce (6)

Roman Pearce was introduced as Brian’s new partner in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Since Vin Diesel decided not to return as Dom in the first sequel, Tyrese Gibson took over as Brian’s sidekick.

After winning over fans with his wisecracking turn in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Gibson went on to turn Roman into one of the Fast & Furious franchise’s most endearing comic relief characters.

5 Tej Parker (6)

Ludacris’ Tej Parker was introduced alongside Roman in 2 Fast 2 Furious and the two went on to become a bickering duo. From the outset, Ludacris showed off his talent for comedic timing.

While Hobbs and Shaw are the ones who got a spin-off franchise, Tej and Roman are undoubtedly one of the franchise’s most beloved double acts.

4 Brian O’Conner (6)

Alongside Vin Diesel, Paul Walker was one of the headline stars of the Fast & Furious franchise from the beginning. In the initial Point Break scenario, Diesel is the charismatic Patrick Swayze figure and Walker is the undercover Keanu Reeves figure.

Tragically, Walker passed away during production of Furious 7 and the movie was retooled as a touching tribute to the actor that tugged on fans’ heartstrings across the world.

3 Mia Toretto (7)

From the very beginning of the Fast & Furious franchise, Jordana Brewster has given a likable turn as Mia Toretto, Dom’s sister and Brian’s love interest.

The filmmakers weren’t sure what to do with the character after Walker passed, so she only appears in a photo in The Fate of the Furious. Fortunately, Mia was recently reintegrated into the main storyline in F9.

2 Letty Ortiz (7)

Michelle Rodriguez has given a series of compelling turns throughout the Fast & Furious franchise as the fierce yet lovable Letty Ortiz, Dom’s primary love interest since the first movie.

Letty was presumed dead after Fast & Furious (the confusingly titled fourth film in the franchise), but she appeared in a photo in Fast Five’s post-credits scene, teasing that she was still alive. Rodriguez has played a prominent role in The Fast Saga ever since.

1 Dom Toretto (8)

Unsurprisingly, the member of Dom’s family who appears in the most Fast & Furious movies is Dom himself, played spectacularly by Vin Diesel. Diesel appeared in all the mainline saga’s movies except for 2 Fast 2 Furious. In all eight of his Fast & Furious appearances, Dom has had his family’s back (except when a hacker kidnapped his son and forced him to turn on them).

He made a cameo appearance in Tokyo Drift before returning to the lead role in Fast & Furious and spearheading the increasingly zany narrative from that point forward.
