Like any fandom of any popular show, The Flash fandom manages to come up with the wildest theories for each new season. With the release of the trailer for season 7, more theories are coming up about the direction the show might take, what will happen to the characters, and what new big bad Team Flash will face.

Season 6 ended on a massive cliffhanger with Iris still trapped in the Mirrorverse, Barry losing his speed, and the Mirror Master (or Mistress, as it were) still at large. On top of that, Team Flash and the rest of the Arrowverse were still dealing with and adjusting to the changes resulting from the Crisis on Infinite Earths. All that—plus foreshadowing of certain events from previous seasons—paves the way for some wild theories that are good enough to come true.

10 Red Death

Red Death is a well-known villain from the comic books. In the series, this particular villain is mentioned in season 5, episode 12 “Memorabilia” set in the future. The Flash often foreshadows future villains in the craftiest ways possible as it did with the Thinker and Mirror Master. On this basis, fans believe this future conversation about Red Death is a foreshadowing of his appearance on the show.

One fan theory hypothesizes that Eobard Thawne’s aura—last seen floating in the sky during “The Exorcism of Nash Wells” will combine with Bloodwork, creating Red Death. This would be an interesting development because Thawne and Bloodwork separately were quite terrifying, and together may very well be unstoppable and one of the worst villains Flash has ever faced.

9 Godspeed

As past seasons have shown, speedsters make some of the best villains on The Flash. Godspeed is another comic book favorite, popular for taking speed from other speedsters. In the CW version, Godspeed is introduced in season 5, episode 18, aptly titled “Godspeed,” a flashback (flashforward?) of Nora’s timeline. In this episode, he’s revealed to be August Heart, a former intern of Mercury Labs.

Season 6 had several versions of Godspeed that Team Flash captured, most of which couldn’t speak, except for one who appeared in episode 18, “Pay The Piper.” One fan believes these were all setups for the real Godspeed who’ll hopefully appear in a future season and give the Flash a run for his…speed—literally.

8 Tornado Twins

When Nora came back from the future and revealed herself to be Barry and Iris’s daughter, fans were pleasantly surprised. However, this threw a wrench in the comic book storyline where Iris and Barry’s children were Don and Dawn Allen, fondly known as the Tornado Twins. Unfortunately, Nora was erased from existence at the end of season 5 due to events that led to a new timeline, but Barry and Iris still believe they will see her again when they have a child in the future.

Thanks to Crisis related changes, however, fans might still get the Tornado Twins or Bart Allen as one fan theory suggests, although Bart is their grandson in the comic books. As previous episodes post-crisis have shown, a lot of things were changed by the event, so anything is possible.

7 The Return Of Thawne…Again

Eobard Thawne aka the Reverse Flash is the one who always gets away and comes back to torture Team Flash. The last time he was seen was in season 6 when he tried to take over Nash Wells’ body and the team “exorcised” him, leaving Thawne as negative tachyons without any form.

After the season 7 trailer where Wells says the “Run, Barry, Run,” line in the iconic way only Eobard Thawne could do, a fan suggested that it might actually be him. It’s possible that Team Flash may have found a way to let Thawne inhabit Nash Wells’ body while keeping him under control, so they could get his help building the speed force to give Barry back his speed. As terrifyingly wonderful as that seems, other fans hope it’s Harry Wells (Earth 2) saying the words instead.

6 The Reverse Flash, Unveiled

Every villain the Flash has ever faced had an agenda and personal motivation, including the Reverse-Flash. His goal was to get back home and he’s proven that he’ll go to the most extreme measures to do so, including going back in time to kill Barry’s mother and set in motion the events that led to him becoming the Flash.

But there’s still so much the audience doesn’t know about the Reverse-Flash. One fan believes that The Flash will finally share Thawne’s story since the character keeps coming back, so everyone can understand his actions and motivations. If the show ever comes to an end, this would be a great conclusion to the story.

5 Barry Creates The Speedforce

When season 6 came to an end, Barry was losing his powers as a result of the death of the speedforce. To keep him from losing them completely, the team decided to try and build their own speedforce, as Thawne had done. By the time the season came to a close, Team Flash was no closer to succeeding in their plan.

One fan came up with a theory that Wally and Barry would need to combine forces to build the speedforce together. This might work, although they’ll undoubtedly need some fancy technology as well, built by Cisco and hopefully Chester, officially initiating the latter into Team Flash.

4 Iris Gets Powers

In season 4, episode 16, “Run, Iris, Run,” Iris got Barry’s powers for a day and became a speedster. Although it was only temporary, seeing Iris with powers was quite intriguing. She and Barry would certainly be next-level awesome if they both had powers, even if Iris’ were not superspeed.

The season 7 trailer gave rise to a fan theory that Iris might get powers. In the scene in question, Iris is still trapped in the Mirror Verse and she flings her arms out like she’s repelling something using an invisible force. After she sort of pixilated in the season 6 finale, it’s possible she changed and maybe even developed powers.

3 Original Mirror Master Returns

Before Eva McCulloch, Team Flash faced a different Mirror Master back in season 3. He was Sam Scudder from Earth 2, and his metahuman ability was traveling through mirrors. Team Flash managed to capture and imprison him in Iron Heights.

One fan believes that Team Flash may enlist his help to rescue Iris and defeat Eva as previous encounters with her showed that she’s a tough one to beat. The logic here is that since the original Mirror Master and Eva have similar powers, they’d stand a better chance at beating her with his help.

2 Black Flash

Black Flash—from the comic books—is a Grim Reaper, specifically for speedsters. He returns speedsters to the speedforce upon their death. One fan had a theory that Black Flash could appear in CW’s The Flash. Not only that, but he’d be Zoom, someone the fandom knows very well.

Zoom was a speedster villain Team Flash faced in season 2 and he was captured by time wraiths, who took him into the speedforce, where they apparently punish speedsters who attempt to alter the timeline. Based on this theory, Zoom’s punishment could be turning into Black Flash, doomed to serve for eternity.

1 The Flash Dies

Before the events of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” it was hard to imagine that a key character of the Arroweverse would be killed off. Especially, since the Flash survived the crisis everyone believed would lead to his death. In the comic books, however, the Flash wasn’t so lucky.

One theory fans had since The Flash premiered was that the scarlet speedster would die one day like his comic book counterpart. Although, with Oliver Queen’s death in the final season of Arrow, Barry following the same path might feel a little redundant and unoriginal.
