Warning: SPOILERS for The Flash season 6, episode 19, “Success is Assured”.

The Flash season 6 ended with Mirror Mistress succeeding as she had been promised, but at the cost of Iris West-Allen’s remaining sanity in the post-credits scene. Since the beginning of the second half of the season, Iris has been trapped within the Mirrorverse while a mirror version of the ace reporter has been serving Eva McCulloch. Until recently, Team Flash had no idea that there were mirror-copies of various characters like Iris, Kamilla, and Singh. But as Eva was able to leave the Mirrorverse and roam around in the real world, Iris remains a prisoner along with the real Kamilla and Singh.

However, since Iris has been trapped there longer, she has begun to feel its negative effects the longer she stays there. With The Flash season 6 ending earlier than planned, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Mirrorverse saga was only wrapped up to a degree. While Eva accomplished her master plan in killing her husband, things in the Mirrorverse begin taking several directions. Since Eva has left, Iris has now begun to develop a closer “relationship” with the dimension, similar to Eva who had been trapped there for over six years. But as Iris gains more control over the Mirrorverse while looking for the real Singh, there’s a negative side effect to her quest.

The Flash season 6 finale post-credits scene leaves Iris’s fate up in the air in the Mirrorverse. After being reunited with Kamilla, they both discover that Iris has somehow found a way to control the dimension. But out of a sudden her pain, which has been on-and-off for Iris in recent episodes, increases as she cries out in pain. However, the mystery doesn’t stop there as Iris’s entire body begins to glow and shift into a crystal-like form before vanishing altogether. With Kamilla left behind and confused where Iris disappeared, her fate is now up in the air. However, given what happened to her body, it’s possible that her body and mind are beginning to quite literally crack; she may ultimately shatter or wither away.

One of the earlier comments made in The Flash season 6, episode 19, “Success is Assured” may have foreshadowed what happened to Iris; specifically, Carver’s conversation with Barry Allen. During the Flash season 6 finale, Carver stresses that there is no way in saving Iris once she got trapped inside the dimension. Given the complexity of the Mirrorverse, it’s not something the human mind can process, hence why Iris has started to lose herself in the last few episodes. The final moment with Iris disappearing is likely a visual representation of time running out for her. When Iris vanished, the glow-effect also made it seem like that she is, literally, beginning to crack like a mirror before it shatters.

The stakes, therefore, are now higher than ever as Iris needs to get out sooner rather than later. Even though Iris is, without a doubt, still alive somewhere in this prison, her disappearance at the end is definitely not a good thing for her well-being. Due to the fact that The Flash season 6 didn’t get to end with its three remaining episodes, viewers won’t find out until next season what the fallout will be. Showrunner Eric Wallace has stated that Iris’s arc in the Mirrorverse will have significant consequences on her going forward when she eventually gets out of there. Besides solving the mystery of how Team Flash will get her out of there, the bigger concern now is what Iris will be like in The Flash season 7 and beyond.
