The Flash has introduced multiple speedsters from the comics into the Arrowverse, one of them being Jesse Wells a.k.a. Jesse Quick. Portrayed by Violett Beane, the DC drama introduced the young heroine during season 2 when it was just beginning to explore the Multiverse. As Earth-2 became the first alternative reality that Team Flash explored, that introduced a doppelganger version of Harrison “Harry” Wells who, unlike Eobard, was actually the real deal and very different. But with Harry’s introduction, it paved the way for Jesse to get introduced as her family lineage was slightly altered for The CW’s DC TV universe. Prior to getting her speed, viewers got to follow Jesse’s traumatic experience of being Zoom’s prisoner before the day her life was changed forever.

But in The Flash season 3 is when Jesse officially became her comic book counterpart as she was fully suited up as the speedster heroine. While she wasn’t a series regular during any of the seasons she appeared in, Jesse was definitely a fan-favorite. Being one of the younger characters as well as one of the few female speedsters from the comics, there was a lot that The Flash could have done with Jesse Quick. But season 4, episode 15, “Enter Flashtime” became Beane’s final time appearing as the DC speedster. Despite having been mentioned off-screen multiple times, why hasn’t Beane returned to The Flash as Jesse Quick?

The Flash: Every Speedster That Exists In The Arrowverse

In 2018, during The Flash season 4, Beane ended up booking the lead gig in the CBS series God Friended Me. Despite moving to a new series on a different network, Beane wasn’t entirely gone from the Arrowverse. Greg Berlanti, who is the executive producer of the entire DC TV franchise on The CW, was also producing God Friended Me for CBS. Being known for working with actors from previous projects, it made sense that Berlanti continued working with Beane after her The Flash gig as she was now the lead of her own series. However, like many other TV shows affected by the global pandemic, God Friended Me season 2 had to halt production.

But COVID-19 ended up having a bigger effect on Beane’s show in the end. In April of this year, CBS announced that God Friended Me had been officially canceled. Despite not having completely finished filming, the creators managed to craft a series finale that would give viewers some kind of closure. As unfortunate as it is for God Friended Me, this might open the door for Beane to return to The Flash next season. Interestingly enough, Javicia Leslie, Ruby Rose’s replacement on Batwoman, also starred in the CBS drama, hence giving her experience in working on a Berlanti-produced series.

Leading up to Crisis on Infinite Earths, Earth-2 ended up getting destroyed in the Arrow season 8 premiere, leaving Jesse’s fate unknown. While Harry seems to now live on through Nash Wells post-Crisis (as does all the Harrisons in the Multiverse), it’s still unclear what Jesse’s status is at this point. The 5-part crossover reimagined Earth-2 to now be the home of Stargirl and the new version of the Justice Society of America. It was likely done on purpose to leave Jesse’s whereabouts up in the air as they’d likely want to feature her again once Beane was available. If fans are lucky, Beane could be back as Jesse Quick at some point in The Flash season 7 in 2021.
