DC Universe’s Stargirl should feature a cameo from The Flash character Jesse Quick. Stargirl is the next hero to join Greg Berlanti’s ever-growing DC TV franchise, and despite the Brec Bassinger-led drama existing outside of Arrowverse’s main Earth, a crossover with The Flash is more than possible. Bassinger confirmed that Stargirl almost appeared in The Flash for a crossover with the Scarlet Speedster as part of a “bigger storyline”; however, it wasn’t possible to execute the idea this season, most likely due to scheduling. Thankfully, a Stargirl/Flash crossover is still possible — using Jesse Quick.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The status quo of the Arrowverse was forever changed following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, since several alternative universes were either restored completely or reborn. Earth-2 was previously known to The Flash and Arrow viewers as the home of Harry Wells (Tom Cavanagh), Jesse Quick (Violett Beane), Laurel Lance/Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) and others — but after Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) as the Spectre rebooted the Multiverse, Earth-2 was revived as the home of the upcoming DC Universe series from Geoff Johns.

The quick glimpse at Earth-2 in Crisis featured Bassinger’s Stargirl alongside several teenage heroes representing the new generation of the Justice Society of America. With a crossover possibility now existing on the table between The CW and DC Universe shows, it’s only a matter of time before the worlds cross paths. While Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) would most likely be the character to share the screen with Courtney, Jesse Quick is the perfect Arrowverse hero to crossover with Stargirl.

Resolving The Jesse Quick Mystery Post-Crisis

Ever since Earth-2 was destroyed in the season 8 premiere of Arrow, Jesse’s whereabouts have been unknown both before and after the recent Arrowverse crossover. Harry, however, is alive to some degree as he is now living inside the mind of Nash Wells. But when it comes to his heroic daughter, it’s being presumed that the speedster is dead. Given Jesse’s history with the franchise, it’s highly unusual for her to have been killed off-screen. It’s more than safe to presume that Jesse’s status has been purposely left up in the air due to Beane starring in the CBS series God Friended Me, which is executive produced by Berlanti.

At the moment, the characters on The Flash seem to believe that Jesse Quick is no longer with them. But given the fact that there are still many things that they have yet to discover since the reboot of the universe, anything is possible. Through the nature of a comic book story, heroes do have ways of coming back from the dead. Since the crossover, very little is known about the new version of Earth-2 and it remains to be seen if Stargirl season 1 will even hint if Jesse exists in that world or not. A Flash/Stargirl crossover would be the ideal way to not only connect those two series but also resolve the Jesse mystery once and for all. It’d also do justice to the character since Jesse is one of the few female speedsters brought in from the Flash mythology.

Embracing Jesse’s JSA Comic Mythology

While Jesse is primarily known as a member of the Flash family, she actually has ties to the Justice Society of America. In the Arrowverse, Beane plays Harry’s daughter, being born as Jesse Wells. Quick’s comic counterpart, Jesse Chambers, is significantly different. Since the character’s debut in August 1992, Jesse is the daughter of Johnny Chambers/Johnny Quick and Libby Lawrence/Liberty Belle. While Johnny Quick has had interactions with the JSA, Liberty Belle is a proper member of the JSA.

In the comics, Jesse follows her mother’s legacy by joining the JSA. Not only has Jesse operated as Jesse Quick, but she actually took on the mantle of Liberty Belle. While the TV version had a romance with Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), Jesse in the comics is tied to a different character that is set to appear on Stargirl: During her time with the JSA, Jesse begins a relationship with Rick Tyler, son of Rex Tyler/Hourman as he takes on his father’s mantle. The two eventually get married before The New 52 happened in 2011.

Cameron Gellman plays Rick on Stargirl and is one of the characters seen during the new Earth-2 montage with Courtney and the others. What Crisis on Infinite Earths has done is not only allow Jesse to potentially live in the revitalized Earth-2, but reboot parts of her character. Since her mother was never explored or even named during Jesse’s earlier appearances, this could be a way to embrace the canon of Liberty Belle even though Harry is her father rather than Johnny Quick.

Earth-Prime’s First Step In Discovering The New Multiverse

Even though Crisis viewers learned about the new Multiverse, the characters on Earth-Prime didn’t. Since The Flash midseason premiere, several characters have revealed that they believe there is only one Earth now. No one is aware that Oliver did more than just create a new Earth bringing Earth-1, Supergirl’s Earth-38 and Black Lightning‘s Earth together. It’s safe to assume that over the next few seasons of the current and upcoming shows, like Superman & Lois, the Earth-Prime characters will slowly begin to discover that there is more than one Earth once again.

A Flash/Stargirl crossover could plant the seed for a Multiverse narrative arc down the line. Whether Jesse is alive on Earth-2 or lives on a different Earth, she can serve as a connected character between The CW’s DC shows and DC Universe series like Stargirl. Since the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Titans and Doom Patrol also exist within the Arrowverse Multiverse on Earth-9 and Earth-21 respectively. While those larger crossovers are possible, it probably won’t happen in the foreseeable future. But with Stargirl, it’s a different situation as this is the only DC Universe series that’ll air on The CW simultaneously as the DC digital streaming service.

It remains unclear what the connection between The CW and DC Universe would look like, assuming Stargirl will be renewed for more seasons. Beginning with a crossover between The Flash and Stargirl would be a solid start, especially if Jesse Quick can become the connected character to bring those worlds together. With Beane’s God Friended Us gig, it might be tricky to make it happen from a scheduling perspective; however, it’s potentially doable if it’s for one episode, at least for starters, especially with Berlanti being the connected producer. Thanks to Crisis on Infinite Earths, a version of Jesse Quick that embraces her JSA comic roots can now be explored in a crossover, but it’d also potentially set up a fun dynamic with Courtney as a fellow teenage superheroine. With Stargirl‘s trailers teasing Courtney leading the next generation of the JSA, incorporating Jesse Quick not only adds to Stargirl but also opens the door for a shared adventure with The Flash and maybe even the rest of the Arrowverse.
