The Golden Girls is a popular and prominent part of pop culture because of its exploration of the lives of four women of a certain age and because of the outrageous fashion they wore. Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia each had their own iconic style components, but there was something about the glitz and glamour of everyone’s favorite Southern belle that remains timeless.

Whether she was floating down the halls of her home in yet another silky Miss Dior nightgown ensemble or sauntering onto the lanai in brightly matching separates, she always made an impression (and made sure she was the center of attention!). While the entire contents of Blanche’s closet could fill several lists, these are her ten best outfits on the show.

10 This fabulous leisurewear

Just because Blanche was dressing casually didn’t mean she was going to look anything but put together. Her contrasting separates with pops of color always made her the center of attention, and if they weren’t enough the shoulder pads surely did the trick.

Blanche preferred bright colors and light fabrics that allowed her to move around her space with the grace and dignity of a true Southern belle. And like a Southern belle, she only needed a curt look to express her displeasure, usually towards one of Rose’s St. Olaf stories.

9 Her wedding dress

Rose was shocked when Blanche tried on her wedding dress – not only did it still fit, it was Cadillac red! While other brides might have been more conventional in their approach, Blanche was anything but a conventional woman, and wouldn’t have wanted to look like everyone else on her big day.

The signature scarlet hue of Blanche’s dress would become a staple of her wardrobe, as she wore attention-grabbing red gowns whenever she wanted to command a room.

8 This foxy number while singing a show tune

When Dorothy becomes more popular than Blanche at her favorite bar, she decides to teach Dorothy a lesson in charisma by performing a show-stopping number in a show-stopping number! She donned her best red sequins and belted out, “I Want To Be Loved By You” while perched atop a piano.

Blanche’s ego was often hurt when she wasn’t the center of attention, but she learned that in the end, preserving it wasn’t worth losing her best friend over. Actress Rue McClanahan was renowned for her singing, which she did both in front of and behind the camera.

7 Jazzercize

Blanche was known for keeping her figure at the epitome of health and vitality. Her romantic endeavors often required the utmost flexibility, something which she prided herself on. In an episode involving her, Rose, and Dorothy being invited to a beach party, the thought of fitting into their swimsuits inspired them to start an exercise class.

While Rose took a demure approach to her workout ensemble, Rose and Dorothy decided to get in the spirit of self-improvement by donning some seriously studded matching ensembles.

6 Her signature color in sequins

Sequins were a staple for evening wear in the ’80s, and Blanche took every opportunity to sport them. While Rose favored more feminine and less sensational outfits, and Dorothy preferred structure, Blanche only wanted to wear garments that matched her extra personality.

Blanche’s red sequin dress with gold beading and a matching jacket was her party pieces for New Year’s Eve. When Rose decided she’d just stay home alone, Blanche consoled her and also uttered one of her most famous lines; “Like I’m the only person who’s ever mixed a margarita in a sailor’s mouth?”.

5 The Two Merry Widows

In the first season of the series, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche were part of the Tip Top Trio, and their costumes were almost as fabulous as their tap dancing abilities. When Dorothy had a foot condition suddenly prevent her from performing, Blanche and Rose were forced to go on without their partner.

When Dorothy ended up needing surgery, Rose and Blanche declared themselves The Two Merry Widows and ended up performing their routine in Dorothy’s recovery room. Only Blanche would insist on making her tuxedo out of black sequins!

4 Her mystery dinner dress

In one of the most popular episodes of the entire series, Blanche was assigned to planning the annual getaway for her museum colleagues and invited her roommates along for the event. She chose to reserve tables at a mystery dinner for everyone, hoping the suggestion would put her in the curator’s mind for the new assistant position.

As Dorothy worked to solve the theatrical murder over dinner, Blanche dazzled in an off the shoulder pink and black dress, which allowed her to play the femme fatale of the plot. She would eventually be back-stabbed by a rival coworker also desirous of the assistant position, but Blanche won for best dressed.

3 Southern belle

Blanche always considered herself a true Southern belle, with all the fiery temperament and effervescent grace of Scarlet O’Hara in Gone With The Wind. This was amplified whenever she spoke about Big Daddy, her father and according to her the finest Southern gentleman to ever live.

Whenever Big Daddy came to visit, Blanche dressed like she’d stepped back in time. She wore nothing but dresses, almost all of them off the shoulder, and layered with ruffles. While her clothing was beautiful in these episodes, her behavior became antiquated, and she seemed to lack the same firebrand spirit.

2 Her business casual

Even when she was dressed professionally, Blanche never missed an opportunity to flaunt a few feminine curves. She felt that it took brains and beauty to be truly successful, and she never underestimated how she looked even in conservative clothing.

Her hip-hugging business casual style made her a shoo-in for job interviews, but sometimes it cost her the respect of her eventual co-workers, who were always after her position at the museum.

1 Her Dior dressing gowns

Most people getting ready for bed don’t expect to have many nightly visitors, but for Blanche Devereaux, the walk to her bed-chamber might as well have been the red carpet. She strutted her stuff like she was going out on the town even when she was only going to bed.

She had a jaw-dropping array of silk Miss Dior sleepwear sets that were as elegant as evening gowns. She was coiffed and ready to entertain at any hour, evening out of a dead sleep.
