Lo Bosworth did not hold back about her former cast members when she was asked about the reboot of The Hills during a recent appearance on a podcast. The former reality star got her start as an original cast member of both MTV’s Laguna Beach and The Hills. Many members of the original cast have signed on to appear in the reboot of the show, The Hills: New Beginnings. Returning cast members include Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and Kristin Cavallari, who makes a few appearances. One cast member who was not part of the original cast is Mischa Barton, who starred in the first three seasons of the scripted show The O.C., which is said to have inspired the creation of Laguna Beach, the show that led to The Hills.

The reboot follows the cast as they navigate in a new phase of life. No longer teenagers, the cast of The Hills is dealing with new challenges, such as marriage and motherhood, as well as facing old rivalries and grudges. The first season ended with Heidi and Spencer’s vow renewal in Santa Barbara, where, of course, things did not go as smoothly as the couple may have hoped. Season 2 is currently airing but doesn’t exactly pick up where season 1 left off. Due to the pandemic, filming couldn’t begin until it was safe. Therefore, season 2 picked up with the cast coming off a year-long lockdown, which didn’t stop the drama, though. This season deals with a high profile divorce, a surprise pregnancy and some not-so-newfound love.

One person who is not loving the show is original cast member Lo Bosworth, who shaded the cast during a recent podcast appearance. During her appearance on the Unzipped podcast, Lo said she was confused as to why her castmates agreed to come back to the show so many years later. Lo questioned why they would return and continue to play into their characters from so long ago. Her theory was that they may need the money or are looking for other ways to fulfill themselves. She also shaded her cast members by saying she is most surprised to see how their personalities are still the same, despite how much they have aged.

Lo also gave some insight into what it was like for her filming the original show and why she chose not to return for the reboot. Being so young when she joined the cast of Laguna Beach, Lo says she has experienced a lot of trauma. She claims not to have liked the way MTV edited her and that it still bothers her today. Lo further explained that she wished she wasn’t in the public eye but understands the choices she made and that she can’t take it back. Her wish to be anonymous lends to her confusion as to why her former cast members chose to return for the reboot.

Spencer and Heidi have recently been expressing their own issues with the reboot and the direction of the show. They have said they felt the cast was out to get them this season, and they did not like the way they were treated. The two have gone on to say the cast of the second season is boring and just jealous of the love the two got from fans after season 1 aired. With some fans claiming the reboot is better than the original version of The Hills, it is unclear if Heidi and Spencer will return for a third season. It seems like they’ve hopped onto the Lo Bosworth bandwagon.

The Hills: New Beginnings airs Wednesdays at 9pm on MTV.
