Here’s the full, star-studded cast lineup for The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. Released in 2017, The Hitman’s Bodyguard promised 2 hours of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson bickering with each other, complete with explosions, gunfights and car chases. Though reviews were mixed, the impressive A-list credentials and fun character chemistry was enough to warrant a follow-up, and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard was announced the following year.

Set 4 years on from the original, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard reunites much of the original cast (the ones that survived, anyway), and turns the star power to 11 with some massive new additions. Originally set for 2020, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard got caught up in the raft of pandemic movie delays, and is now set for June 16, 2021. These are the faces you can expect to see, including the Hitman, his Wife, and her Bodyguard.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ryan Reynolds as Michael Bryce

Michael Bryce was a hotshot bodyguard rebuilding his reputation after a very dramatic fall from grace. When The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard begins, Bryce is haunted by the specter of his nemesis, Darius Kincaid, and must take a sabbatical from security duties completely. In a neat twist, he initially refuses to partake in violence and killing of any kind in the sequel. Don’t expect that to last until the end credits. Ryan Reynolds will, of course, be known to viewers as Deadpool, Green Lantern, Detective Pikachu, and the co-owner of Wrexham AFC.

Samuel L. Jackson as Darius Kincaid

Vicious hitman Darius Kincaid formed an uneasy partnership with Bryce in The Hitman’s Bodyguard, killing Gary Oldman’s considerably more vicious Dukhovich. Sent to jail in the film’s final moments, no amount of security could keep Kincaid from his wife. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard finds Kincaid in need of protection once again, as another big-shot criminal comes for his head. Despite growing closer during their time together, Bryce and Kincaid are still far from best friends. Samuel L. Jackson is best known for his work with Quentin Tarantino, his role as Nick Fury in the MCU, and as Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels.

Salma Hayek as Sonia Kincaid

Salma Hayek enjoyed a small but memorable role in The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Despite being locked up, her passionate, inextinguishable love for Darius evidently transcends the boundaries of a jail cell. Sonia Kincaid enjoys a more central role in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. She saves Bryce from being assassinated on vacation, but only to recruit him as a bodyguard for her husband, who once again finds himself in danger. Hayek is famous for From Dusk till Dawn, and will star as Ajax in the MCU’s upcoming Eternals.

Morgan Freeman

The biggest addition to The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is unquestionably Morgan Freeman, reportedly in the role of “Senior.” There’s an intentional veil of secrecy surrounding Freeman’s character, and trailers have frustratingly obscured his role in the plot, potentially suggesting an overarching villain. Morgan Freeman became a cinematic legend thanks to turns in The Shawshank RedemptionBruce AlmightySeven, the Dark Knight trilogy, etc…

Antonio Banderas as Aristotle Papadopolous

One character definitely on villain duties in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is Aristotle Papadopolous, played by Antonio Banderas. Aristotle is the man gunning for Kincaid in the sequel, and looks to be a ruthless, influential criminal not afraid to get his hands bloody. Banderas’ filmography includes The Mask of ZorroSpy KidsPhiladelphia, and various Shrek movies as Puss in Boots.
