Superman is one of the strongest, most powerful characters in DC Comics. However, there’s a Justice League member who’s often showed he’s more powerful than Supes and is arguably the strongest member of the team ever: Doctor Fate. Fate will be taking down Superman in exciting new previews for Superman #24.

Doctor Fate is one of the oldest superheroes in existence, first appearing in More Fun Comics #55 back in 1940 before DC Comics came into existence. Putting on the Helmet of Fate, which originally was worn by Nabu the Wise, gives the wearer extraordinary powerful magic powers, which grants just about every ability imaginable. With the great power comes a lack of control, as those who wear the helmet are usually consumed and corrupted by becoming Doctor Fate. In a recent Justice League Dark arc, Nabu takes control of the helmet and wreaked havoc but eventually is taken down and Khalid Nassour (the youngest Doctor Fate) brokers a deal for control. Nassour’s Doctor Fate will be showing up within the upcoming pages of Superman.

Doctor Fate can be seen using his magic to control Superman in Ivan Reis’ cover for Superman #24 by Brian Michael Bendis and Reis. While solicits haven’t given a full synopsis of issue 24, the preview for issue #23 by Bendis and Kevin Maguire reveals that Doctor Fate will be helping his Justice League ally fight against the throws of magic. The preview says people in Superman’s life worry that he was somehow influenced to make the decision to reveal his true identity to the public. It’s also said that Superman’s becoming more and more vulnerable to magic. To fight the threat of magic influencing Clark Kent, Doctor Fate will be making a house-call to check in on him. Given the battle between Fate and Superman on the cover of issue #24, it’s safe to assume Superman is having a tough time dealing with potential mystical influences as Fate will use his own magic to keep him under control.

Check out Reis’ cover for Superman #24 followed by the solicitation for issue 23.
