The OMG Girls provide memorable comic relief in The Kissing Booth, however the actress who plays Mia was surprisingly recast for The Kissing Booth 2. In the sequel, the OMG trio have a smaller role, and the character Mia has a slightly different look, Here’s why Netflix decided to replace one performer with another.

South African actress Jessica Sutton portrays OMG Girl Mia in The Kissing Booth. The character is first introduced early on for expositional purposes, as protagonist Elle Evans (Joey King) recalls her life story and friendship with Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney), who has a crush on the tall and charismatic Mia. The OMG Girls receive slo-mo treatment during their introduction, with Mia, Olivia (Bianca Bosch), and Gwyneth (Zandile Madliwa) making their presence known during lunchtime while seeking out school gossip. The Kissing Booth‘s narrative focuses on Elle and Lee’s attempts to overcome their on-going conflict, which links to Elle’s romantic interest in Lee’s brother, Noah (Jacob Elordi). Midway through the film, Mia reveals that she’s just not that into Lee, and does so with a mean-spirited tone.

The Kissing Booth 2 Ending Explained: What College Elle Chose (& When)

OMG Girl Mia is portrayed by Camilla Wolfson in The Kissing Booth 2. The original actress, Sutton, reportedly didn’t plan to reprise her role, which allowed for a new performer to join the cast of regulars. Of the two Mia actresses, Sutton is slightly more experienced. She starred as Tally Craven in the Freeform series Motherland: Fort Salem and portrayed Allison in the 2019 hit Escape Room. Sutton also co-stars opposite Megan Fox in the 2020 film Rogue. As for Wolfson, she actually played a character named Mia in the 2018 comedy Action Point starring Johnny Knoxville, and recently portrayed Young Julia in the History Channel miniseries Grant.

Sutton receives decent screen time in The Kissing Booth, and makes the most of her performance. She appears taller than the other OMG Girls, and stands out with her large and expressive eyes. For a pop culture comparison, Sutton’s cheek dimples and overall demeanor may remind some viewers of American actress Julia Stiles, who starred in the 1999 high school classic 10 Things I Hate About You with the late Heath Ledgerand later starred alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. in the 2001 romantic comedy Down to You. In The Kissing Booth 2, Wolfson stays true to her predecessor’s performance as Mia, but mostly focuses on presenting a Valley Girl personality during her brief amount of screen time. Wolfson is South African like Sutton, and has stated (via Flaunt) that she created a Mia playlist while preparing for The Kissing Booth 2:

“Mia has got her own dedicated playlist. She is all about feeling her best self when she gets up in the morning so she has Pussycat Dolls, she is all about Britney Spears. I have just a playlist of Mia and that is what I use. And clothing too. She has her own wardrobe. I always make a separate wardrobe and a separate playlist.”

The Kissing Booth 2 mostly stays consistent with supporting character arcs from the original film. The OMG Girls return, albeit in a reduced role, and the goth girl Heather (Michelle Allen) also shows up to embarrass Elle during Marco’s character introduction. Expect Heather and the OMG Girls to return for The Kissing Booth 3, most likely for Los Angeles-based scenes. However, it’s certainly possible that they’ll somehow end up attending The University of California-Berkeley with Lee (and possibly Elle).
