The Last of Us 2: Every Gate Code in Seattle

The Last of Us 2 is finally here. Naughty Dog’s follow up to 2013’s post-apocalyptic-zombie-survival-adventure delivers stunning visuals, new characters, and excellent storytelling. Ellie, while reserved and shy, breaks out the badass that fans have missed since the first fame. This guide will be FREE of any spoilers in regards to the game’s plot so please feel safe to read.

The Last of Us 2’s Seattle portion of the game takes its generally linear play style and sprinkles in open-world mechanics. Players will explore and be prompted with ‘side quests’ along the way. There are no actual side quest logs, Ellie just does a great job of telling players, ‘Hey, maybe we should check this out.’

How to Obtain & Use the Seattle Gate Codes in The Last of Us 2

As the game progress, Ellie’s backpack becomes a bottomless hole of collected notes, trinkets, and super-hero cards. After completing the opening leg of the game, (introducing new characters and catching up with old) Ellie and new friend, Dina, arrive on horseback in what used to be Seattle. As players progress down the highway, they’ll want to be very meticulous in terms of scavenging. Don’t just ride that horse up to the front gates and expect to knock. Dismount and search. Office trailers line the left side of the street, and in one of them is the most invaluable piece of paper one has found thus far… a map. One side depicts a larger picture of the city, the other, more important side, is a grid of Downtown. Ellie will display some parkour prowess as she scales the front gate and makes her way, safely, onto the other side.

Directly ahead will be another office trailer. The door, however, is locked. Put an elbow through the glass, and hop in. Located in a filing cabinet will be a piece of paper with a list of gate codes scribbled on it.

• North 0 – 1382
• Main Gate – 0512
• East 2 – 5345
• West 1 – 6128
• West 2 – 0451

A few are missing, faded, or just completely absent. Don’t fret, the important codes are for the Main Gate, East Gate 2, and West gate 2. After powering the generator and connecting the wires, Ellie can open the Main Gate to let Dina and Shimmer (the aforementioned horse) in.

West Gate 2 in The Last of Us 2

Players are now forced Downtown in search of gasoline. Once again, dismount and scavenge every inch of this area. The Pet Store, Cafe, and Bank prove to be full of weapons, valuables, and superhero cards. Ellie will also stop and mark points of interest on her map as players pass them by. (Note, the map is tricky to understand at first in relation to how far away things actually are. The area is NOT as big as the map makes it seem.) West Gate 2 will reward explorative players with a healthy cache of gear and collectibles in one fell swoop. The gate is actually inaccessible but the code is still of use. According to a note, players can find nearby, the West Gate code is also the combination to a safe located between the intersections of Madison & 4th and Madison & 5th.

East Gate 1 in The Last of Us 2

Players will notice that East Gate 1 is missing from their list of codes. Don’t waste time looking for the code downtown. Once satisfied with exploring, continue on the main quest-line, and the code will be given naturally. Dina will punch it in once obtained, and players can embark on the next leg of the game.

As we learned from 2013’s The Last of Us, murdering zombies takes a back seat to carefully crafted story and character development. While members of the community seem to have differing opinions on the game, The Last of Us 2 certainly expands on the unique series. As it is still in its infancy, it is too early to tell what the general opinion of the game is.
