The Mandalorian season 2 includes a reference to Constable Zuvio, a cut character from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm’s first live-action Star Wars TV show, created by Jon Favreau, has made a habit of including plenty of nods to the larger universe. The first season was littered with Easter eggs for fans to pick up on and that continues with season 2. In addition to more direct callbacks like the explosion of the Death Star or slightly more obscure ones like Krayt Dragon pearls, The Mandalorian season 2 has quickly returned to form.

The first episode of The Mandalorian season 2 was filled with Star Wars Easter eggs for fans to catch, as the Disney+ show wasted no time giving viewers scenes stuffed with details. The episode opened with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and The Child aka Baby Yoda on an unknown planet where they attend a fight between two Gamorreans. As per usual with big events in Star Wars, the crowd featured plenty of recognizable alien races from past and future projects. One of the characters in the audience, though, is a direct reference to someone missing from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the lead up to J.J. Abrams’ relaunch of the franchise, promotional materials and toys showed off one of many new characters set to be featured in The Force Awakens: Constable Zuvio. The Kyuzo alien quickly gained a following after one of his action figures surfaced online, as he was teased to be a law officer on a lawless planet, one which turned out to be Jakku. Despite the build-up for the character’s debut in The Force Awakens, fans were confounded when he didn’t appear in the movie. Zuvio and his deputies all wear the same armor, with the red and green plated circular helmet with a drop-down visor helping make them easy to spot. In The Mandalorian season 2, the Zuvio lookalike can be seen at the 4:22 mark and a better look coming at 5:14.

This isn’t the first time that a Star Wars project has included a Kyuzo alien that appears to be associated with Zuvio. The Mandalorian included a few references to the species during season 1, so it isn’t even something entirely new for the show to do. Each of the appearances has only been in the background character capacity though. Although it is possible that the same Kyuzo alien is popping up at different points in The Mandalorian, it might be more likely that they are multiple different aliens.

With another reference to Constable Zuvio in The Mandalorian season 2, it is fair to wonder if the show could potentially make use of a character that Star Wars: The Force Awakens couldn’t. Given the small amount of information that is known about Zuvio’s life, we can’t even rule out that one of these references is him. An actual appearance by Zuvio is within the realm of possibility since it is established in canon that he is alive during the events of The Mandalorian. After all, if the show can bring back Boba Fett, then maybe Constable Zuvio will be involved at some point.
