Here’s where you might’ve seen or heard The Mandalorian season 2’s scrapyard droid before. Ever since Moff Gideon abducted Baby Yoda from Tython, Din Djarin has been a man on a mission. Last week’s episode teased the return of Bill Burr as Migs Mayfeld, as Mando believed the convicted criminal could lead him to Gideon’s Imperial ship. Sure enough, “The Believer” begins with Djarin, Cara Dune, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand traveling to the Karthon Chop Fields correctional facility, temporarily releasing Mayfeld from his sentence to aid their mission.

Continuing the age-old Star Wars tradition of overbearing but sickeningly polite droids, Mayfeld’s hard labor stripping down TIE Fighter wreckage is overseen by an automated New Republic prison guard carrying an electric baton. The droid badgers Mayfeld until he stops working, instructs him to follow Cara Dune, and then threatens to zap the prisoner if he doesn’t move fast enough, all while chirping “inmate 34667” with a monotonous drone that would make even the most ruthless criminal want to go straight.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The New Republic security droid on Karthon is voiced by Donald Mills. Gamers might recognize Mills’ voice from 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII, but his biggest role as an actor came in the first season of Black Monday, guest-starring as Wasp in the 2019 Showtime series. The Wall Street comedy stars Don Cheadle and will air a third season in the new year. Mills is also slated to appear in the Molly Ringwald-fronted Pursuit.

While The Mandalorian represents an early acting role, Donald Mills has enjoyed a much longer career as a stuntman. Among Mills’ various stunt credits are the DCEU Wonder Woman movie. Netflix’s The DefendersPreacherThe OrvilleJustice LeagueAmerican Horror Story and Teen Wolf. The voice of the New Republic security droid has performed as a stunt double for Nick Blood in Agents of SHIELD, James Marsters in Runaways, and Blair Jasin in Ozark. “The Believer” isn’t Donald Mills’ first foray into the world of Star Wars. Not only did he perform moves for the Star Wars Kinect video game, but Mills has been working as a stuntman in The Mandalorian since the show began in 2019. After appearing physically throughout Din Djarin and Baby Yoda’s epic Disney+ journey, The Mandalorian season 2 has finally given Donald Mills some lines – albeit spoken through the digitized vocal cords of a security droid.

Although Donald Mills might be known more for running jumps and taking bumps, his New Republic security droid in The Mandalorian season 2 brought a moment of levity to an episode that was otherwise heavy in action, violent revenge and Imperial bleakness.
