The Mandalorian‘s Ming-Na Wen reacts to getting honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Walk of Fame is located on the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard and consists of permanent brass stars of various artists who have had long careers in the industry. Wen has had a long, eclectic career, beginning in the soap opera As The World Turns and in the hit Chinese-American film The Joy Luck Club, which was recently selected for preservation by the National Film Registry. She would later become well-known for her starring role as Fa Mulan in the 1998 animated adventure musical movie Mulan and its sequel Mulan II in 2004.

Wen continued her career in television, becoming Dr. Chen in ER and headlining the series Inconceivable, which was one of the rare television shows with an Asian American as the lead character. The actress has since transitioned to acting in science fiction and superhero genres with her starring role as Melinda May in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and most recently appearing as Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian. Wen has continued to act in film and television regularly for decades and is now finally being acknowledged for her body of work.

Wen has recently taken to her social media her reaction to the announcement that she would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was shocked by the news as she shared the report from DiscussingFilm. Wen’s original tweet can be seen below:

Celebrities who have stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame include Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Harrison Ford, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, to name a few. Getting a star on the Walk of Fame is a huge achievement for any celebrity, right up there with getting an Academy Award. Wen was just one of the many celebrities recently announced to be getting a star including Ewan McGregor, Bob Odenkirk, Michael B. Jordan, Ricky Gervais, Willem Dafoe, Salma Hayek, and the late Carrie Fisher.

Wen has paved the path for diversity and visibility in Hollywood for Asian Americans and has served as a major influence for aspiring Asian artists. Having given three decades of solid work and impacting many people in and out of the entertainment industry, Wen’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Star is long overdue. While Wen’s reaction to the announcement may be shock and awe, the honor is completely justified and deserved for the Mandalorian star.
