There was once an X-Force member who became more powerful the drunker they got. The character is a mutant who, other than assuredly being a fun time at a Krakoan beach party, has the ability to create seismic waves equal in strength to the level of alcohol in her blood. This alcohol-powered mutant, unfortunately, meets her end early on in her career, though she certainly left quite an impression on the entire Marvel Universe.

Beckah Parker, or Gin Genie, was a member of the X-Force making her first appearance in X-Force #116 by Peter Milligan with art by Mike Allred – unfortunately, Gin Genies’ last appearance is in the very same issue. In X-Force #116, the team is introduced as celebrities who seem to care little for their fellow team members and care only for their personal fame and status as superheroes. While preparing for a gala celebrating a new teammate, Gin Genie is characteristically intoxicated and mocked for having less of a fanbase than some of the other members. While the malicious interaction between X-Force members is seemingly insignificant, it gave readers an insight into the dynamic of the team. This specific X-Force group is clearly toxic as shown throughout the issue, and while they may not be the best fit to be superheroes, Gin Genie and the rest didn’t deserve to go out the way they did.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While rescuing a boy band ‘Boys R Us’ from a group of terrorists in X-Force #116, a helicopter ambushes the team of heroes and blows the X-Force to pieces, including Gin Genie. The terrorist attack on her and her team marked the end for Gin Genie, but during her short run, she exhibited a powerset unlike any other mutant or even Marvel character in general. While she wasn’t immune to the intoxicating impact alcohol has on the body, thereby putting a cap on an otherwise limitless powersource, Gin Genie had enough control over her powers to be an effective international soldier fighting alongside the best mutant militant squad of their time.

Gin Genie died in the first issue in which she appeared, which is pretty not great in terms of comic book characterization, but she didn’t go out with a whimper.

In Gin Genie’s one and only comic issue, fans were able to see a clear and coherent example of her powers, a look into her personality, and her relationship with her fellow mutants. Even though Beckah Parker is gone, she will be remembered for her unique and effective powers and a gloriously gory death scene, plus who knows, with Krakoa and the Five in place and the X-Force still up and running fans may not have seen the last of Gin Genie.
