The Masked Singer was almost one contestant short as one performer reportedly wanted to quit two days before filming. Season 7 of the show has not been short on talent, with Firefly, Ringmaster, and Miss Teddy all being frontrunners in terms of their vocals. Fans have also been impressed by what they’ve heard in previews from Prince, who will make his appearance when Group C hits the stage. There has also been a fair share of drama on the show with McTerrier’s mask falling off during his performance and Firefly choking during her debut performance and having to be rushed off stage.

Luckily, The Masked Singer contestant later returned and blew judges away with her cover of “Aint Nobody” by Chaka Khan. However, that wasn’t the last standout moment for Firefly. When she found out she was in the bottom two and would be performing in a duel round against Ram, the contestant stormed off stage in anger. Fortunately, she returned for the round and won fans over, allowing her to move further along in the competition. Hydra, who was recently revealed to be Vegas magicians Penn & Teller, had a lot of issues with their extravagant three-headed costume and the show had to make some adjustments to it for safety concerns.

With all the issues, it’s no surprise that one of The Masked Singer‘s season 7 contestants was ready to quit before filming even started. According to TMZ, due to feeling unprepared and overwhelmed by their costume, this contestant nearly left the show 48 hours ahead of filming. This would’ve been a huge problem for the show, and executives would have had to revamp the entire season to compensate for the missing contestant. While The Masked Singer has had some pre-filming drama before, they have never had someone try to quit so close to the start of the season.

TMZ  has also clarified that the contestant’s decision had nothing to do with stage fright as they are a pretty seasoned performer, they were just thrown off by their costume. Luckily, producers were able to keep the contestant on The Masked Singer after sending them flowers, pep talks, and lots of praise. While the publication didn’t reveal who the performer is, they did admit it is one of the top singers of the season. With everything that went down with Firefly, it could likely be about her. However, it could also be one of the contestants that fans haven’t even met yet.

It’s a good thing producers knew exactly what it would take to get the contestant to stay on the show. It would have been a disaster for them if they were down one contestant so close to the start of filming. It also would have been a missed opportunity for the performer and The Masked Singer fans if they chose not to do the show. Luckily, everything worked out, and fans have been loving the talent this season.

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
