Now that Evan Peters’ Quicksilver is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios can finish off one of the biggest unresolved plotlines from F0x’s X-Men franchise – the reveal that the speedster is Magneto’s son. WandaVision has been pulling off its unique storytelling format for five episodes now that mainly tackles Scarlet Witch and Vision’s new life as a married couple in Westview. Its biggest surprise, however, took place at the final few minutes of episode 5, “On A Very Special Day”, when Pietro Maximoff showed up at their doorstep, but it wasn’t the one played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

On the heels of Disney’s historic acquisition of Fox, the latter’s X-Men franchise which was softly rebooted by X-Men: The First Class also came to a close. Peters’ Quicksilver debuted in X-Men: Days of Future Past and has appeared subsequently in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which marked the final film of the series. Immediately after his introduction, it was clear Fox was setting up the revelation he’s Erik Lehnsherr’s son. Unfortunately, this particular plot point never really materialized and the Fox X-Men franchise died without it getting a resolution.

With Peters’ Quicksilver now in the MCU, there’s a chance to finally rectify this issue. In the latest WandaVision episode, it’s implied this version of Pietro Maximoff is indeed the one from the X-Men film series; it’s not a coincidence Marvel Studios simply cast Peters to play the same character, especially since they’re also building their multiverse. It’s uncertain how he was able to cross universes, but assuming this is indeed the case, other versions of the mutants can also make their way into the MCU, including Michael Fassbender or Ian McKellen’s version of Magneto. And if he and Pietro find themselves reunited, Marvel Studios can bring closure to one of Fox X-Men’s unresolved narratives.

There were plans to resolve this issue in Dark Phoenix, but as it turns out, but the filmmakers couldn’t find the right spot for what’s supposed to be a pivotal moment. It didn’t help that Dark Phoenix‘s story was so convoluted and overstuffed that even its main story didn’t make sense. Maybe it could’ve worked if they did this in Apocalypse, tying in the heartbreaking death of his new family. But other than their cool scene together in Days of Future Past, Magneto and Quicksilver never interacted much in the series.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff’s MCU origins would be retconned to become Magneto’s daughter and, effectively, a mutant. Instead, Marvel Studios can chalk this up to the universes converging because of Scarlet Witch’s shenanigans at Westview. Considering WandaVision is expected to play an important part in Marvel’s attempt to set up their multiverse, Quicksilver can be easily resolved in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – perhaps sending Peters’ Quicksilver and any other Fox mutants back to their own universe.
