The MCU Just Wasted Four Great Thor Villains At Once
Warning: Spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney At Law episode 3
In a single episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Marvel wasted four of the best villains in Thor’s rogues’ gallery. She-Hulk episode 3 marked the live-action debut of the Wrecking Crew, a B-list villain team in Marvel Comics. Thanks to She-Hulk, all four of the group’s original members now have MCU counterparts.
It was said before She-Hulk premiered that a number of Marvel Comics characters would appear in the series. Slowly but surely, that tease is proving to be true. She-Hulk episode 3’s ending saw Jennifer Walters face off against four villains wielding what appear to be magical weapons. One of the characters – Thunderball – was name-dropped in the episode. The costumes of the other three allow them to be easily identified as Piledriver, Wrecker, and Bulldozer. How they fit into the episode indicates that the four characters will be secondary antagonists in She-Hulk’s show. It seems the group was trying to get their hands on She-Hulk’s blood for a mysterious third party.
She-Hulk has yet to reveal the Wrecking Crew’s role in the overarching story, but it’s already been made abundantly clear that they’re not the powerhouses they were expected to be. In Marvel Comics, the Wrecking Crew is a group of criminals granted superhuman abilities by an Asgardian enchantment. Armed with magically enchanted construction tools and super strength, the Wrecking Crew has been a thorn in the God of Thunder’s side for decades. As a team, the four are so powerful that Thor has even been known to team up with Hercules to stop them. After all, just one Wrecking Crew member is strong enough to be a match for a hero like Spider-Man, which is why it’s so disappointing that She-Hulk beat them up with minimal effort.
How The Wrecking Crew Could Have Been Used In The MCU
Though a team of super-powered criminals using construction tools as weapons may sound silly, the Wrecking Crew actually had a great deal of potential in the MCU. While they may not have worked as main villains, they could have made for some excellent secondary antagonists. With their powers, the Wrecking Crew could have helped deliver some exciting live-action slugfests. For instance, it wouldn’t be hard to see them engaging in an epic brawl with Thor and Hercules in Thor 5 or joining forces with other villains in Avengers: Secret Wars (as the comic characters did in the original story). They could have worked well for She-Hulk too – but only if the series had found a way to properly showcase what they bring to the table.
Best remembered for helping to put Marvel’s Hercules in a coma and also for their numerous showdowns with Thor and the Avengers, the Wrecking Crew truly could have been villains worthy of a superhero team-up in the MCU. But such a scenario ever being necessary seems doubtful after what Walters just did to them. Regardless of what the show does with the Wrecker, Thunderball, Bulldozer, and Piledriver in the remaining episodes, their humiliating beatdown in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law makes it unlikely that any of the four characters will get their due in the MCU’s future.
