Mindy Kaling’s hilarious doctor romcom known as The Mindy Project aired for six seasons between 2012 and 2017. While most of the episodes were entertaining, we’re here to look at the ones that outshone the rest. We’ll be doing this using star scores on IMDb.

10 Josh and Mindy’s Christmas Party (8.4)

This Season 1 episode had Mindy throwing a giant Christmas party at her place for all of her co-workers. Here, they meet Mindy’s current boyfriend, Josh. However, things take a turn for the worse when Josh’s other girlfriend shows up. The subplot meanwhile has Jeremy struggling to provide the staff with adequate holiday bonuses.

Though this episode came early in the series, it helped establish a tone for the seasons to come. It showed Mindy’s romanticized, scatter-brained nature, causing a load of hilarious moments to ensue.

9 Wiener Night (8.4)

Mindy’s latest boyfriend is Jason, a successful arts and culture writer. The conflict comes when he believes her mainstream pop-cultured taste is far too different from his highbrow preferences. This leads Mindy to bring him as her date to Christina’s art show. Unfortunately for Danny, his nude photos are the star of the exhibit and he spends most of the episode trying to find a way to take the exhibit down.

This Season 2 episode’s high ranking was thanks to the story playing off of each of the character’s weaknesses, with Mindy’s being her basicness and Danny’s being his fragile ego.

8 Danny Castellano Is My Personal Trainer (8.5)

Mindy wants to get in shape for her winter vacation, so she enlists Danny to help her out. Meanwhile, Jeremy decides to take advantage of his extra sick days and puts Peter in power while he is gone.

The love-hate chemistry between Danny and Mindy is electric in this one, as is Mindy’s competing desires for food and looking hot. This leads to some hilarious scenarios in this much-loved Season 2 episode.

7 While I Was Sleeping (8.6)

The Season 4 opener had Mindy pondering what life would be like if she hadn’t had fallen for Danny. As she imagines the perfect man, Danny is racing off to India for a chat with Mindy’s parents. His goal: to stop them from marrying their daughter off to an Indian bachelor.

This episode, the season the strong kick-start that it needed. This was especially vital, being that the series was premiering for the first time ever on Hulu. The first three seasons had previously found a home on Fox.

6 Homewrecker (8.6)

The finale of Season 4 saw Mindy and Danny getting stuck in an elevator together while at Leo’s school. Jody meanwhile attempts to apologize to Mindy via a giant plan that involves sneaking into her apartment.

“Homewrecker” was an emotional roller coaster that ended on an edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger. Jody tells Mindy he loves her moments after she’s hooked up with Danny, who is unfortunately still engaged to someone else.

This was hard to swallow, especially given that actor Chris Messina (Danny) wouldn’t be returning as a regular for Season 5.

5 It Had To Be You (8.6)

The Mindy Project’s series finale had its leading lady searching for an investor after she realizes she can’t fund the practice on her own. Subplots had Danny’s mother getting a double mastectomy and Tamara and Morgan finally tying the knot.

It all comes to a quiet conclusion, with Danny finding Mindy’s arm stuck up a vending machine at the hospital and the two sharing one final kiss. Though much of the future remained unknown, the episode implied that the two were always destined to be with each other and fans were happy to see it.

4 Christmas Party Sex Trap (8.7)

Mindy wants to entrance her love interest, Chris. To do this, she throws a holiday party that totally backfires when Brendan’s date swoops in to perform a sultry version of “Santa Baby.”

This Season 2 episode also happened to act as a turning point for Mindy and Danny, as it becomes evident that she has some deep-buried feelings for him. Only time would show how they played out.

3 When Mindy Met Danny (8.7)

This heart-breaking episode, which came in the middle of Season 4, has Mindy thinking back to her first day at the practice. As she reflects on the past, she sees how much her relationship with Danny has changed, which leads her to decide she has to move out of his apartment despite having a child together and being engaged.

Mindy is hilarious and dramatic, and we love her for it. That being said, it was incredible to see the emotional weight added to her character during this episode.

2 You’ve Got Sext (8.9)

This much more lighthearted episode came about during Season 2. In it, Mindy reveals to Danny that she has feelings for someone, and he completely misunderstands. While Mindy is crushing hard on a lawyer named Cliff, Danny mistakenly believes he is the subject of her affection.

Morgan and Peter meanwhile get ahold of Mindy’s phone and start communicating with Cliff on her behalf. However, the catfishing goes too far and they’re forced to figure their way out of it.

The hilarity and romantic tension made it one to remember.

1 Danny And Mindy (9.4)

The highest-rated episode of The Mindy Project came in the form of the Season 2 finale.

In “Danny and Mindy,” Mindy gets herself a secret admirer who turns out to be Danny. The episode gave everyone in the cast a shining moment. Meanwhile, Mindy and Danny’s romance went through a series of ups and downs that referenced some of history’s greatest rom-coms including You’ve Got Mail, An Affair to Remember, and When Harry Met Sally.

It’s sweet, it’s romantic, and we were all very excited when Danny and Mindy finally got together, making this episode the definitive fan favorite.
