David Wallace came on The Office in season two as Dunder Mifflin’s newest CFO. Not much was known about Wallace at first but as time went on he became an important member of the show. He was Michael Scott’s voice of reason and the savior of a failing paper company until Sabre bailed them out.

Over the years, little parts of David’s personality began to shine and he seemed more personable instead of an intimidating figure at corporate. But with distractions like Dwight’s fake fire, “that’s what she said” jokes, and Ryan getting arrested, little parts of David Wallace’s life were overshadowed. Scroll below to learn more about Dunder Mifflin’s best CFO and CEO.

10 David & Rachel Have More Than One Child

In the episode “Secret Santa,” Michael finds out from David that all of their jobs are in jeopardy when there’s a potential buyer of Dunder Mifflin. With this new buyer, they will clean house and start fresh. Michael wasn’t supposed to tell everyone but he did. He later tried getting in touch with David but it didn’t work. The only way to reach him, according to Michael, was to call his assistant and pretend to be his daughter’s school. David answered the phone in a sympathetic voice thinking it was his daughter but it was just Michael. Oddly, this is the only time his daughter is mentioned. Viewers have only seen his son Teddy.

9 The Military Bought Suck It

After Sabre buys Dunder Mifflin, David is let go and it’s assumed that viewers would never see him again. But when Michael has trouble adapting to Sabre, he visits David for help. It’s there that we learn about his invention called Suck It. It’s essentially a vacuum that picks up kids’ toys.

What viewers may forget is that David did, in fact, follow through with Suck It and ended up selling it to the US Military for *GASP!* $20 million!

8 He’s Also The “World’s Best Boss”

David made his first appearance in season two’s “Valentine’s Day.” He introduces himself to the regional managers of Dunder Mifflin and holds a budgetary meeting. Unsurprisingly, the meeting goes awry when Michael tells the other managers that he’s sleeping with Jan. This, of course, prompted a private meeting with Jan, Michael, and David. While in David’s office, a “World’s Best Boss” coffee mug can be seen on his desk! With his mug matching Michael’s mug, this could foreshadow that David and Michael have more in common than they realize.

7 He Was A Whistleblower

In the episode “Whistleblower,” Jo finds out that someone within the Dunder Mifflin and Sabre family leaked a story about their faulty printers. While Michael would have let something like this go, Jo Bennett was determined to find out who did it so she could fire them.

Everyone knows the whistleblower was Andy but things become confusing when more than one employee admits they leaked the story. David Wallace even did a talking head where he tells the crew that he spread the rumor about Sabre’s printer fires to former clients. Who knew Wallace had it in him to be petty!

6 Wallace Financially Supported Oscar’s Run For State Senate

Oscar Martinez is one of The Office’s most underrated characters. He had so much depth and incredible storylines that could have been elaborated on. After Oscar’s relationship with Angela’s politician husband was leaked, Oscar appeared to get the political bug because in the ninth season he announced that he was running for Pennsylvania State Senator (against his ex-boyfriend!). In the finale, it’s mentioned that David is supportive of Oscar’s senate dreams and even donated to his campaign.

5 He’s Musically Inclined

When Michael can’t accept all the new changes happening with Sabre and Dunder Mifflin, he drives to David Wallace’s on a whim to ask him for help. Unfortunately for Michael, David had no advice. He seemed to be loving life at home.

When Michael enters David’s house, his son Teddy is playing the drums. Teddy isn’t a character shown often but he did make an appearance in the episode “Cocktails.” By the end of the episode, David joins his son on the keyboard and the two sing a theme song of sorts for his invention, Suck It.

4 David Entered Dunder Mifflin In Uncertain Circumstances

Just like the similar sitcom, Parks and RecreationThe Office has plenty of workplace relationships. However, there were just as many inappropriate relationships and moments in The Office as there were consensual ones.  The Office did a great job with continuity when they introduced a change of CFOs in the episode “Sexual Harassment.” Todd Packer came to Scranton and told everyone the former CFO Randall resigned after he was accused of an inapt relationship. Soon after came the episode where Wallace was introduced. Nevertheless, with so many issues revolving around sexual harassment and relationships, it’s concerning how relaxed he was with Scranton’s atmosphere and the relationship between Jan and Michael.

3 His Wife Appeared To Be Worried About David’s Mental State

Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch has been through its fair share of changes over the years. David Wallace being fired wasn’t a huge transition for the show but it still took some getting used to. When he was let go, his appearance was less threatening and more “every man.” He was wearing sweats and had a five-o’clock shadow. When David’s wife came home, she didn’t know Michael was there and asked what exactly David did that day. When she finds out Michael was there unannounced, she looks at them in the hot tub disapprovingly.

2 He Wanted Michael To Join The Suck It Team

Think about how many things would change for Michael if he took David up on his offer to join the Suck It team. When the two men were in the hot tub catching up, David tells Michael “If you want, I’m sure I could get Artie on board if you want to join us for Suck It.” Michael looks confused but David tells him they could work together again. Michael turns him down (and thinks David has lost his mind) but this could have been a steller a partnership. Especially when he sold it for $20 million!

1 He Makes Ryan Cry In A Deleted Scene

In a deleted scene, Ryan is working at reception when he answers the phone. David Wallace is on the other line yelling at Ryan. His words are muffled but he says something along the lines of why Ryan was working there and that he caused the company hundreds of thousands of dollars for his role in committing fraud. Ryan is quiet and begging David to stop yelling at him but it doesn’t stop. When the camera zooms to his talking head, his eyes are wet with tears and he looks speechless.
