Jim Halpert from The Office is a character that is often seen as boyfriend and husband goals. The relationship between Jim and Pam is one that many people adore and that audience rooted for from the start. In fact, their relationship is often seen as one of the most endearing of any television couple. While they definitely have some great moments, and Jim has some romantic ones, there are also times where Jim is actually a horrible partner.

Here are the ten worst things Jim did to the women he dated.

10 THE WAY THAT HE BROKE UP WITH KATY

One of the first signs that Jim isn’t such a great guy after all is his relationship with Katy. While he might seem like he’s a good boyfriend, the way he treats Katy shows that he isn’t.

When he invites her on the Booze Cruise, it’s clear that he could care less about her and is only doing so because he’s feeling jealous of Pam and Roy. The fact that he breaks up with her so suddenly and abruptly, while still stuck on the cruise, is pretty uncaring. This definitely isn’t an admirable thing to do.

9 HOW HOT AND COLD HE IS TO PAM WHILE DATING KAREN

After Jim comes back to Scranton when the Stamford branch merges, he acts pretty much all over the place with how he treats Pam. He is a little distant at first, which makes sense considering that he left because of his feelings for her. However, he switches from being really cool and distant to joking around and pranking with her. His back and forth attitude is really uncomfortable to watch, and it’s not really fair to either Pam or Karen.

8 PINING OVER PAM WHILE HE’S DATING OTHER PEOPLE

Another thing about Jim that’s often painted as romantic when it’s really kind of upsetting is how he always pines and obsesses over Pam. He’s not over Pam when he dated Katy or even Karen. While letting go of feelings for someone can be difficult, the fact that he is always so obsessed with Pam even when she’s turned him down is a little annoying. It’s portrayed as proof of their true love when really it’s just obnoxious.

7 SPENDING MORE TIME PRANKING WITH PAM THAN WITH KAREN

While most fans of the show were rooting for Pam and Jim to get together, the fact is that Karen wasn’t treated that well by Jim. There was nothing wrong with her, and she was a good match for Jim. But, the whole time that Jim was dating her while they were in Scranton he was giving a lot of attention to Pam. He shouldn’t have given her so much attention and fallen into old patterns if he was really committed to Karen.

6 TRYING TO DITCH PAM AT THE DINNER PARTY

While Jim might treat Pam better overall than the other women that he dated, sometimes he could be a bit selfish with her, too. When they get roped into Michael and Jan’s dinner party, it’s clearly an uncomfortable disaster.

Jim tries to get them out of it, but he’s perfectly fine to leave by himself and make Pam endure the dinner alone. This isn’t a very kind thing to do to someone you’re dating and supposedly in love with.

5 BREAKING UP WITH KAREN WHILE THEY WERE IN NEW YORK

Jim definitely has a track record of breaking up with his girlfriends rather abruptly and coldly. He breaks up with Katy quite suddenly while on the Booze Cruise, and then he does a similar thing to Karen. After their interviews with corporate in New York City, Jim breaks up with her while on the trip. While this might be one thing, the fact that he turns around and asks Pam on a date within a few hours of breaking up with Karen is rather gross.

4 NOT TELLING KAREN ABOUT HIS PAST WITH PAM

When Jim starts dating Karen, it’s clear that he’s trying to start over somewhat and move on from his feelings for Pam. While he struggles to do so, the fact that he still has feelings wouldn’t have been such a big deal if he was honest with Karen. But, instead, he never even tells her about his history with Pam until she figures it out from things other employees say.

Given that they both were working in Scranton with Pam, it seems like he should have at least filled her in.

3 ONLY USING KATY BECAUSE HE WAS SAD ABOUT PAM AND ROY

While many people like to think of Jim as some sort of inherently great guy who treats the women he’s with super well, the fact is that he often uses people for his own ends. When he’s struggling with seeing Pam and Roy’s relationship, he starts dating Katy. But, instead of dating her because he seems to actually like her, he seems to mostly only bring her around when he thinks it might make Pam jealous.

2 MAKING HUGE DECISIONS WITHOUT PAM’S INPUT

While this technically happens after these two are married, not while they’re dating, it is definitely a case of Jim not being a great partner. He makes a habit of making big life decisions that would greatly impact both of their lives without consulting her. He does this for the first time when he buys his parents’ house for them. While this might have seemed like a romantic gesture, it’s a big move to make without asking for Pam’s opinion. Then, he does the same thing about starting up a business in Philadelphia.

1 KEEPING THINGS ABOUT ATHLEAD FROM PAM

One thing that’s really frustrating about Jim is the way that he treats Pam in the final season of The Office. He expects her to go along with all of his plans and dreams without caring about what she wants. But, the worst part of all of this is how he keeps things from Pam. He starts the business and making these plans before he even tells Pam what is going on. This is just one of many selfish things he does in their relationship.
