A lot of characters of The Office have been involved in their fair share of mean pranks in the series, but the original prankster will always be seen by fans as Jim Halpert. Ever since putting his stapler in Jell-o in the very first episode, Jim has only ever had eyes on one victim, Dwight Schrute.

However, Jim’s monogamous pranking relationship with Dwight hasn’t always been as low-stakes as putting office equipment in food, as the jokes grew to become more physically and mentally torturous over the years. Despite being hilarious, these pranks make it seem as if Dwight was almost stuck in an abusive relationship with the prankster.

10 Good Natured: Faxes From Himself… From The Future

There are a lot of times that Dwight outsmarted Jim, but this is certainly not one of them. It’s impressive that Jim was able to Prank Dwight on a regular basis from an entirely different city, and if Dwight falls for them he almost deserves to be humiliated.

As Jim moved offices in season three, Jim would fax Dwight notes that Dwight thought were from himself from the future. Dwight would hilariously abide by every single fax because if there’s anybody who makes sense, it’s future Dwight.

9 Bullying: Identity Theft

Though it might have been one of Jim’s best pranks, there’s nothing more like bullying than copying everything Dwight says and making fun of the things he likes.

Jim put together an ensemble to look exactly like Dwight – glasses, yellow shirt, parted hair – and it looked hilarious, but in real life, that would be seen as completely hurtful. However, Dwight dressed up as Jim later in the episode, and it was one of Dwight’s shadiest burns.

8 Good Natured: Asian Jim

It’s one of the most well thought out of Jim’s pranks and one that was seemingly in the works for years, Jim hires an actor friend of his, who just happens to be Asian, and he pretends to be Jim by walking in to the office and getting to work.

When Dwight questions it, Asian Jim tells him that the two have been working together for years and then says, “Hats off to you for not seeing race.” This is the ultimate prank that doesn’t take aim at Dwight or humiliate him for any of his interests, but still manages to mess with him.

7 Bullying: Removing His Chair

In what is one of the most classic pranks of them all, Jim wraps up Dwight’s entire desk and everything on it with Christmas wrapping paper, including his desk chair.

However, the wrapping paper is just a Trojan horse hiding the real prank, which is that his desk and chair are completely missing. Not knowing this, Dwight slumps down on his “chair” but falls backwards, and it looked extremely painful.

6 Good Natured: Creating His Security ID

There are so many different levels to this prank and it’s almost like multiple pranks in one.

When getting their new security IDs made, Jim changes Dwight’s middle name to fart, and then he laminates it to the size of an A4 piece of paper, clipping it on Dwight’s shirt. Dwight takes it as expected, screaming, “I am not a security threat!” But in the end, there’s no harm, no foul.

5 Bullying: Throwing The First Snowball

When it starts snowing in Scranton, Jim enters the office with a giant snowball. He calls for Dwight’s attention and then launches the snowball right at his face.

Though there’s nothing wrong with a snowball fight, Dwight was defenseless and the throw looked more than a little painful. Though Dwight got his revenge in the end and Jim got his comeuppance (even if it is one of the reasons why Dwight should never have become the manager).

4 Good Natured: The Matrix

In a prank that has only just seen the light of day years after it was first shot, Jim spends an enormous amount of money and hires a ton of people to make Dwight believe that he’s living in the matrix and that he’s the chosen one.

He even hires Hank the security guard to play the role of Dorpheus. It’s hilarious, but it was clearly cut for it’s length, as the gag goes on for a good five minutes.

3 Bullying: Putting His Desk In The Toilet

Over the years of working feet apart, Dwight and Jim have done some humiliating things to each other, but this one is arguably the most humiliating of the lot.

When Dwight enters to start his day selling paper, his desk is missing, which leads to a game of Hot or Cold. When he finally finds the desk in the toilet, he sits down and gets to work. The desk looks way too heavy for him to heave it out all on his own and it looks like it’d take hours to do so.

2 Good Natured: The Final Prank

Always falling for Jim’s pranks is one of the saddest things about Dwight, but this prank was one of the most endearing acts of kindness that Jim has ever done for his coworker.

It may seem a little strange that Jim was Dwight’s best man to begin with, as they’ve always had a bittersweet relationship, but right before the wedding, Jim tells Dwight that he won’t be best man, only for none other than Michael Scott to show up to fill the role.

1 Bullying: Making Him Climb A Telephone Pole

After Dwight finds a red wire connected to his computer, which was of course planted by Jim, Dwight feels the need to follow the red wire to see where it goes. He finally finds the end, which is right at the top of a telephone pole.

Though, to Jim’s credit, the amount of creativity he has is insane, as he had the ability to simply look at a red wire and come up with this ingenious prank, even if did mean Dwight literally risking his life and almost plummeting to his death.
