In The Office’s “Conflict Resolution,” Dwight is astounded when all of his complaints against Jim had gone unresolved and ignored. The only way Dwight would continue working at Dunder Mifflin is if Michael fired him or Jim at the end of the day. Michael is disturbed at the thought of firing two of his friends and best salesmen and decides to have a meeting with Dwight and Jim to hash out their issues.

During the meeting, Jim realizes how much time he wastes at Dunder Mifflin. But there wasn’t any actual proof that Jim did some of the pranks that Dwight picked up on. Pranking Dwight was one of Jim’s greatest pleasures and he continued pranking him throughout his career at Dunder Mifflin. And while Dwight has complained countless times about Jim, these were just some of the more memorable ones he wrote and sent to HR.

10 Crayons > Pens

When Michael has a meeting with Jim and Dwight to go through Dwight’s complaints, one of the ones that stood out was exchanging all of Dwight’s pens for crayons. Picturing Dwight filling out paperwork with crayons should have been one of the cold opens.

With Pam working the front desk (and the supplier of all the pens), there’s no way she would have given Dwight extra pens to make up for Jim’s prank. The only person Dwight could rely on was Angela.

9 “Hey, Dwayne!”

After Michael read Dwight’s complaint about everyone calling him Dwayne for a day, Jim told the cameras that he was right. He paid the entire office $5 to call Dwight ‘Dwayne’ for the entire day and that “it was totally worth it.” This moment is adjacent to when Michael wrote Threat Level Midnight and named his robotic butler, Samuel.

Samuel was the one character who was constantly messing up throughout the series. When the office was reading the script for the movie, they found a spelling error for the name “Dwigt.” It appeared that Michael originally named his idiotic butler “Dwight,” but used ‘search and replace’ to change the name to Samuel. But ‘search and replace’ doesn’t work on miss-spelled names, meaning Dwight found out that Samuel was based on him.

8 One Word: Diapers

Another way that Jim pranked Dwight was by changing the name Dwight to Diapers on his computer. Every time Dwight wrote his name on a form or in an email, Diapers would replace his name. It was after Michael read this complaint that Jim realized how un-funny all of these pranks sounded at the moment. At the time, they were the only things getting him through the day. It became abundantly clear that Jim was only working part-time and Dunder Mifflin and part-time pranking Dwight.

7 Why Is The Copier So Close?

Dwight has a great view of the copy machine from where he sits at his desk. However, little by little he realized that his desk got closer and closer to the copier. Jim told the camera crew that he moved Dwight’s desk and inch closer to the copier every time Dwight went to the bathroom. That’s how he spent his “entire day” that day. With Pam working at the front reception (i.e. closest to the copier), she for sure had her hands in this prank as much as Jim.

6 Honorable Mention: Jell-O Fights

Dwight is a man who is bothered easily. He doesn’t enjoy people touching his things and knows right away when Jim has his hand in a prank.

In the pilot, Dwight is being introduced to Ryan as Dunder Mifflin’s temp. When he opened up his drawer, he found his stapler stuck in Jell-o. Aggravated, he told Michael this was the third time Jim had done this to him. As he grabbed the stapler, Michael stopped him and told him to eat the stapler out instead. It’s times like these when the only person Dwight could complain to was Toby because Michael never took his complaints seriously.

5 Honorable Mention: Dwight’s Fitness Ball

“Conflict Resolution” only shared eight of Dwight’s formal complaints against Jim, but it’s assumed there were way more than eight. He had an entire box full of complaints after all! Because of the short list, Dwight’s fitness orb deserves an honorable mention.

In one of the funniest cold opens in the series, Jim is confused as to why Dwight was bouncing on a fitness ball (or as Dwight called it, a fitness orb). The ball was aimed to strengthen Dwight’s core and back, so he swapped his desk chair for the ball. Jim couldn’t take Dwight bouncing on it and heavy breathing all-day, so he popped it using scissors. It’s not known if Dwight wrote a formal complaint but it tracks if Dwight did.

4 There’s An Abandoned Infant In The Ladies Room

When it comes to the bathroom at Dunder Mifflin, Jim and Pam have both utilized it heavily for pranks against Dwight. One time, Jim had placed Dwight’s desk in there in one cold open. Another time, (in a prank that has definitely not aged well), Pam drew a mustache on the mirror to show Dwight that he looked like the man who had indecently exposed himself to Phyllis.

However, fans learned of another prank that occurred off-screen involving Meredith. In “Conflict Resolution,” Dwight complained that Jim once told him that there was an abandoned infant in distress in the bathroom. When Dwight ran into the bathroom, the only thing he found was Meredith “on the can.”

3 Was Dwight A Murderer?

Fans would have loved to have a deeper elaboration for this prank. For starters, did the glove have real blood on it, and if not, then what did Jim use as the blood? And who did Dwight supposedly murder?

This entire scenario screams the Scranton Strangler. Jim could have totally convinced Dwight that he was the Scranton Strangler. Imagining an episode where Dwight has to convince himself that he’s not a murderer would have been gold.

2 That’s One Heavy Phone

This has got to be one of the more unique pranks that Jim pulled on Dwight. The complaint read, “This morning, I knocked myself in the head with a phone.” Michael looked confused as he read the complaint, because how was it Jim’s fault that Dwight hit himself with the phone? But in a talking head, Jim admitted that he slowly added nickles to his phone until Dwight got used to the weight. Then, he took out all of the nickles so that Dwight wouldn’t expect the lightness of the phone.

1 Dwight “Fart” Schrute

When the office is forced to enter the building with identity badges for security reasons, Jim takes it a step further and adds a little something special to Dwight’s badge. Not only did Jim change Dwight’s middle name to “Fart,” but he noted that Dwight was a security threat. Considering Dwight’s middle name is Kurt, he was less than impressed by Jim’s prank. Dwight is also a stickler for safety and didn’t appreciate being called a “threat.”
