The way that business is run in The Office is often way more ridiculous than it is in the real world. However, there are some similarities to the frustrations of dealing with corporate business, but the show takes these aspects and makes them over the top.

While the employees of Dunder Mifflin might get up to a lot of shenanigans, the corporate office and employees are often just as shameless. Here are the ten most shameless things that Dunder Mifflin corporate ever did in The Office.

10 Keeping Michael Scott as a manager for so long

Michael Scott being a manager for so long doesn’t really make any sense. He’s not very high up in the company, so it doesn’t make sense for financial reasons that they would up with the things he did. Michal did so many things related to sexual harassment and mocking people for their identities.

He put so much risk onto the company, and it would make way more sense to fire him and hire somebody else. The fact that they liked him so much and didn’t fire him was weird.

9 When David Wallace had Jim and Michael be co-managers

One thing that doesn’t make a lot of sense about corporate is when they try to elect two managers of the same branch. David Wallace at one point makes them both managers of the Scranton branch, and this just seems like a shameless way to promote Jim without really doing something that makes sense.

Having two managers on the same level of management at a relatively small branch isn’t a good leadership strategy. This is why Jo Bennett asks one of them to step down after Sabre takes over the company since this set up just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

8 Driving the Prince Family Paper Company Out of Business

When it comes to business, there’s always going to be some level of competition. Trying to be better than your competitors and to get the most clients is just how things go. But, when David Wallace sends Michael to scope things out, the methods they use to steal clients from the company are pretty unethical.

It’s clear that the Prince Family Paper Company is a business run by a kind family, so seeing Michael and corporate screw them over like that was hard to watch.

7 Interviewing Michael for Jan’s job

When Jan starts acting erratic and not really doing her job, it makes sense that the corporate office is looking for her replacement and planning to fire her. However, what doesn’t make sense is how they schedule Michael to interview for this position without letting him know first what the job is.

This puts Michael in a weird position when he’s told about this at the interview, and it seems like given their romantic relationship that he shouldn’t be considered for the corporate job at all.

6 Never really taking the serious sexual harassment issues seriously

The employees of Dunder Mifflin deal with and perpetuate a lot of horrible behaviors, and Michal is often the worst offender. There is a ton of sexual harassment that happens as well as making fun of people for their sexual orientation or even race.

The fact that corporations never really step in except to do some surface measures such as seminars is pretty disturbing. They seem to let Michael get away with basically everything.

5 When they tried to close the Scranton branch

For much of The Office, Dunder Mifflin is struggling to thrive. At one point, the corporation decides to close the Scranton branch and fire Michael and to focus on the Stamford branch instead.

While Michael might not be the best manager, the way that corporate flip-flopped and ended up closing Stamford when Josh quit was rather shameless.

4 Transferring Holly because she was dating Michael

Michael definitely has a rather troublesome pattern of behavior of dating the people that he works with. While this might not be the best quality for an employee to have, it’s technically not against the company rules.

Given that he’s not breaking any rules, it’s not very fair that David Wallace decides to transfer Holly because she is dating Michael. It’s clear that their relationship is why the transfer happens, and it seems messed up to interfere in their relationship like that.

3 When David Wallace hired Charles Miner

Dealing with Michael Scott wouldn’t be very pleasant and could definitely be annoying much of the time. So, it does make sense that David Wallace would try to find a person to be the go-between.

However, the way that David Wallace ignores Michael completely and doesn’t listen to his concerns was a bad call, and it ended up causing a lot of troubles for Dunder Mifflin overall.

2 The shareholder meeting and corrupt business practices

In season six, Michael is invited to attend the panel at the shareholder’s meeting in New York City. Everyone from corporate is rather shameless in this situation as they don’t have any actual plan to save the company. They also are rather blatant with spending money on themselves including taking limos to the meeting.

Their selfishness and inability to come up with any plan shows that they aren’t very good at their jobs. This is one situation where Michael clearly is a lot more concerned about the future of the company than corporate is.

1 Giving Ryan the job at corporate

One of the most shameless things that corporate ever does, and one that makes the least sense, is when they give Ryan the corporate job that Jan used to have.

While Ryan might have a business degree, he doesn’t really have any experience in a corporate environment, and he’s also pretty bad at his job at the Scranton branch. He never really makes any sales, and he’s not a hard worker. The fact that he was hired over more qualified candidates is really strange.
