Disney has released a trailer for its The Proud Family reboot that finally confirms a 2022 premiere date. The Proud Family was a staple on the Disney Channel from 2001-2005. The animated series followed the daily life of Penny Proud, a 14-year-old Black girl with quite an eccentric family. Outside of being the perfect balance of heartfelt and hilarious, the series made major headway for BIPOC representation both on-screen and behind-the-scenes. Considering the show’s fandom, it was exciting news when Disney revealed its plans to reboot the series in a Disney+ show dubbed The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, with much of the original cast and crew returning.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, as part of Disney+ Day, Disney+ dropped The Proud Family reboot’s first trailer on Twitter and unveiled its plans for a February 2022 release date. The short trailer reacquaints viewers with the Proud family and Penny’s inner circle of friends, even though the core group has grown and changed just a bit. Oscar is still overly protective of Penny and still has an ever-growing contentious relationship with Suga Mama. And as always, the one-liners are still hitting it out of the park. Check out the trailer (via the official Disney YouTube channel) below:

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder trailer also teases some A-list guest stars and a group of new characters. Joining the original voice cast as series regulars will be Keke Palmer, Zachary Quinto, Billy Porter, and EJ Johnson. The list of guest stars for the Proud Family reboot is extensive but includes musicians like Lizzo and Lil Nas X, actors like Gabrielle Union and Jaden Smith, and other big names in Hollywood like Tiffany Haddish, Normani, and Tina Knowles.

The Proud Family original series made fans fall in love with Penny’s ultra-relatable and oftentimes over-the-top family, so it’s not surprising it made Disney’s list of potential reboots. Now that a release date has been revealed, the countdown is on for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder to entertain and impact both its original fans and a whole new generation.
