With Star Wars books, movies, video games, and more all considered official canon, there are bound to be a few narrative slip-ups here and there. No matter how people may feel about the movie, 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker seemingly had several plot holes and created even more. One of these plot holes created by the film appears to relate to Star Wars: Battlefront II, specifically in how the video game and Rise of Skywalker depicted different versions of the second Death Star’s wreckage.

In Battlefront II, the main story concerns Iden Versio, an Imperial who switches sides and helps the Rebel Alliance and New Republic toward the end of the Galactic Civil War. There are other modes in Battlefront 2, including Starfighter Assault, where players can participate in large-scale space battles. During one of these Starfighter Assault levels, players must pilot through the debris of the second Death Star above Endor.

Because of the nature of the game, players can get up close and personal with the debris of the Death Star II. The debris shows pieces of the Concave Dish floating in space. The Concave Dish, from which the Death Star’s iconic superlaser beams emit, is easily recognizable despite being in so many fragments. The dish is falling apart into countless pieces as it falls through space. The wreckage of the dish seen in Battlefront 2 is very different from what viewers see in The Rise of Skywalker.

Rise Of Skywalker & Battlefront 2’s Death Star Differences

As seen in the picture above, the Concave Dish of the second Death Star is coming apart in pieces in Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The Death Star wreckage seen in The Rise of Skywalker still shows the dish in pieces on the moon of Kef Bir. However, the movie’s version of the Death Star wreckage has the dish in significantly fewer pieces, which creates the plot hole for Battlefront 2.

If the roles were reversed, this could make sense. After all, The Rise of Skywalker takes place about thirty years after Battlefront 2, so it’d make sense the ruins would’ve deteriorated more during that time. However, because The Rise of Skywalker‘s Death Star is put together more than the one previously seen in Battlefront 2, it just doesn’t make sense.

It’s been almost a year since The Rise of Skywalker first released in theaters, and fans are still finding connections between the film and other Star Wars media. The depictions of the second Death Star in ruins vary greatly between the film and Battlefront 2, creating a plot hole and continuity error in the video game.
