With the highly anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s successful graphic novel series, Sandman, coming to Netflix this year, subscribers and fans of the acclaimed author will hopefully have a brilliant new series to binge-watch.

But this is not the only major new series coming to the streaming service as it will be joined with new productions as well as returning favorites. Among the brand new shows, these are just a handful to look forward to in 2022.

The Sandman

When it comes to adaptations of literature, Neil Gaiman is one of the most recognizable names when it comes to TV shows and movies. From Coraline to Good Omens, his celebrated work has reached and entertained new audiences.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

One of his most acclaimed comic books, The Sandman, will finally be making its series debut on Netflix. The show’s premise follows the personification of Dream (played by Tom Sturridge) who returns to the modern world to rebuild his kingdom after being imprisoned by a cult for 70 years.

Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King

When it comes to crime documentaries, Netflix has demonstrated as one of the best to diving into these unsolved crimes and the associated criminals. From Making A Murderer to Tiger King, Netflix has made some of IMDb’s best-ranked true crime shows.

Their most recent is Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King and fans of the genre won’t have to wait too long as it will be released at the end of the month. The series will follow the mystery behind the death of Gerald Cotten, a multimillionaire who was the founder of a cryptocurrency exchange.

Boo, Bitch

Lana Condor is no stranger to Netflix as the star of To All The Boys movies. And she will be returning to the platform with a new limited series Boo, Bitch as its leading actor as well as a producer.

This comedy follows Erika (played by Condor) as she wakes up from a big high school party to find herself as a ghost. The showrunners will be Erin Ehrlich and Lauren Lungerich, who are known for their written work on On My Block and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

That 90s Show

That 70s Show was one of Fox’s biggest comedy series, comprised of eight seasons, and starred Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, and Ashton Kutcher before they became big-name actors. Despite 16 years since the final episode aired, fans will finally see a sequel series.

While not all the actors are set to return, Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith will reprise their roles as the married odd-couple Kitty and Red Forman, an always happy wife and her disgruntled and grumpy husband. The show will see them bond with their granddaughter during her summer visit as she meets the local teenagers. Let’s just hope more recurring characters will return in That 90s Show to assist the Formans.

Anatomy Of A Scandal

Adapted from Sarah Vaughan’s book of the same name, the six-episode British series will follow multiple characters as they go through challenging scandals. The show will star Sienna Miller, Rupert Friend, Naomi Scott, and Michelle Dockery, just to name a few actors who will pop up.

And while the cast and the source material alone will have audiences excited, the show’s director is certainly no stranger to television. C. J. Clarkson has directed some of the biggest shows in television, including smash hits like Succession and Collateral as well as Netflix originals like Orange is the New Black.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Fans of video games have enjoyed some of the best adaptations throughout the past year alone with Netflix’s hits like Arcane and Castlevania. Showing everyone how to make great video game adaptations, they have no signs of slowing down with the second season of The Cuphead Show and Cyberpunk Edgerunners coming out later this year.

But they are no strangers to anime too, with fan favorites like The Seven Deadly Sins and Komi Can’t Communicate. So it’s no surprise to see Studio Trigger animating this Cyberpunk series and after their work on Little Witch Academia and BNA: Brand New Animal, Netflix could have another great video game adaptation on their hands.

First Kill

Perhaps seen as one of the more ambitious series to come out in 2022, First Kill is based on one of the short stories featured in the book, Vampires Never Get Old: Tales With Fresh Bite. The original author, V.E. Schwab will also be penning the series, her first credit on a series.

But she is in good hands as the showrunner will be Felicia D. Henderson, who previously produced The Punisher and Gossip Girl,  while Emma Roberts will serve as the executive producer for the show. With a fantasy drama involving the relationship between a vampire and a vampire hunter, Twilight might just meet its match with a show that might compete with IMDb’s best-ranked supernatural teen dramas.

Lost Ollie

Ollie’s Odyssey is a children’s book by William Joyce that follows the adventures of a stuffed toy rabbit named Ollie as he is stolen by Zozo the clown king and must reunite with his beloved owner. Now finally making his television debut, the series is renamed Lost Ollie and stars Jonathan Groff (Kristoff from the Frozen series) as the toy.

Peter Ramsey will return to the director’s chair after his work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and We the People. And with the famous special effects studio Industrial Light and Magic helping Ramsey to bring the toys to life, this is certainly set to be an exciting adventure for the whole family.

Wednesday

Whether you are a fan of the recent animated The Addams Family or the 90s live-action movies, one of the standout characters has been Wednesday Adams, played by Christina Ricci and Chloe Grace Moretz in those respective titles. And Netflix will finally give her a standalone series this year with Jenna Ortega taking on the role.

The show will follow Wednesday as she goes through high school life while solving the mystery behind a killing spree across the town. And Tim Burton will be directing the series, returning to his gothic filmmaking roots while also attempting to tell a mystery story, and will surely excite fans for Wednesday.

The Witcher: Blood Origin

As their answer to HBO’s Game of Thrones, Netflix’s The Witcher is based on the Polish fantasy novels and the epic video games of the same name. And with season 3 currently in production, viewers will expect the return of Henry Cavill’s Geralt for another monster-slaying adventure.

But fans will rejoice as a prequel series will be released this year starring Michelle Yeoh and Sophia Brown. Set over a thousand years before Geralt’s introduction, the series explores the life of the first Witcher and the world of men co-existing with elves.
