In a game as large as Dragon Age: Inquisition, there are still secrets players are uncovering even five years after it was first released. The Dragon Age universe is expansive, with plenty of lore players can get invested in that makes the world seem fully realized and alive. Often, lore is hidden in various nooks and crannies around the world, rewarding players for their full exploration. Despite so much available lore, fans are still in the dark about what, specifically, might take place in the upcoming Dragon Age 4. At the end of Inquisition’s final DLC, Trespasser, the Inquisitor finally comes face-to-face with Solas after at least two years following the fall of Corypheus. In this final confrontation, the player learns Solas was responsible for the creation of the “real” world and its separation from the dream world, called the Fade. He shares his plans to destroy the Veil he put up that separates reality from the spirit world, likely causing massive chaos and death in the process.

What players still don’t know, however, is what he intends to do once the Veil has been destroyed. A behind-the-scenes trailer at Gamescom 2020 indicated players had not seen the last of Solas, and it seems his plans will be central to the plot of the new game. During Inquisition, it first seems he simply wants to restore elves to their former glory. Later, it is revealed he put up the Veil to punish the remaining elven gods, the Evanuris, after they killed Mythal and began enslaving their own people in a bid for power and immortality.  However, prior to the final part of the DLC’s main quest, if players return to the Deep Roads through the Eluvian after flooding it, they can find a secret room that hints there’s more to the story and that they and the characters truly have no idea what exactly Solas is truly intending to do in Dragon Age 4. They can also solve a puzzle here and earn a unique staff for the trouble. Here’s how to find that secret room in the Dragon Age: InquisitionTrespasser DLC.

Find the Secret Room in Dragon Age: Inquisition: Trespasser

During the main quest of Trespasser, the player will enter the Deep Roads and flood the area to stop the Qunari from smuggling more Gaatlok around Southern Thedas. Following this, the Inquisitor returns to the Winter Palace and will set out once more following a few cutscenes. To uncover this secret, the player will need to divert and take the party once more to the Deep Roads prior to continuing the main questline.

When the player returns to the Deep Roads, they will need to travel into the area called the Grand Stairway. Here, they will see a door blockaded by a fallen pillar and littered with empty Gaatlok barrels.

The player will need to use the Inquisitor’s new ability, Anchor Blast, to use the mark and destroy the fallen pillar, unblocking the door. The door leads to a small room containing another Eluvian.

Through the Eluvian, the party will stumble into the secret area called the Unknown Ruin. They will need to follow the path into the room, lighting a Veilfire torch along the way, until they enter a room containing a statue of Fen’Harel. The Inquisitor and party members will remark on the frescoes in this room. If Varric is in the party, he will comment they look like Solas’ pieces in the Skyhold rotunda.

The player will need to solve a puzzle wherein they stand on a slightly elevated path in the Wolf statue’s gaze, choose Hold Position, then have another party member push a button on the back of the head. This will lift them up to a Veilfire Brazier they can light, which allows them to loot a chest at the base of the statue for a unique staff.

There is also a rune here that players should be sure to read that may explain a major part of the plot of Dragon Age 4.

User Corseque on YouTube showcased this area in her video titled “The Most Important Room in Dragon Age: Inquisition” and explained its significance to Solas’ plans in Dragon Age 4. In the secret room, players learn the Evanuris were seeking and unleashing Titans, the underground behemoths of the Deep Roads central to the plot of The Descent DLC, to drain them of lyrium for power. Corseque reveals a line from a datamine of the hidden room that reads, “Fen’Harel was here and wanted to make sure no one ever found out what the other gods were doing.” Presumably, this is because there are many factions in Thedas who would try to follow the Evanuris’ footsteps if given the chance if it meant they could secure power for themselves.

This room leaves players with more questions than answers but provides a little more insight into what may be next for Dragon Age.

Dragon Age: Inquisition and the Trespasser DLC are available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
