While the X-Men movies still hold a special place in many fans hearts, one of the biggest complaints about both the originals and the reboots is the fact that the movies seemed to be less about X-Men, and more about the two most famous actors in each film series. The originals serving more as Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) movies, and the newer serving more as Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) films. But the reality is that these two characters are huge fan favorites off the screen — but the same can’t be said for their son.

Believe it or not, Wolverine and Mystique actually have a child together, a child that shares both of their fantastic abilities. First appearing November 2013 in X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1, Raze Darkholme is the son of Mystique and Wolverine. He was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen and appears in a grand total of one hundred and three issues. One hundred and three may seem like a lot of issues to pop up, but realistically when it comes to comics that are published regularly, this is a relatively small number.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In an attempt to stop Wolverine from being able to help the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning from the Future X-Men, Raze originally showed up disguised as Katherine Pryde in an effort to get close enough to his father to take him down. Later, Raze actually killed his own mother, using his shapeshifting abilities to take on her form and hide as her for a while. Eventually, Charles Xavier discovered this disguise by using his psychic abilities, and Raze joined up with Charles and the Future Brotherhood. Eventually, Raze initiates a plan to remove all non-mutant life from the planet and bring all mutant life across the multiverse to earth to serve as one large mutant paradise, however his plan is thwarted by a Phoenix from an alternate reality.

So now for the cool stuff, his powers. Raze is essentially a combination of his parents, having super-healing, retractable claws, and the ability to shapeshift. The thing is, Raze is actually more powerful than his parents, so while his powers are a mashup of the two, he actually excels in some aspects, especially his shape shifting.

His transformative abilities are far superior to his mother, even to the extent that he is able to shift his scent, explaining why Wolverine didn’t identify him posing as Kitty Pryde. He is able to use his shapeshifting to not only disguise himself as other people, but bend and stretch his body at will, similar to the ways Mr. Fantastic powers operate. He is also able to shapeshift small parts of his body at once, rather than just the entire thing, allowing himself to add extra features to his own body such as wings, opening the possibilities of his list of powers up to whatever he can think up.
