The Umbrella Academy: Every Song In Season 2

The Umbrella Academy‘s incredible soundtrack was just one element of what made the Netflix show’s debut so great, and The Umbrella Academy season 2 doesn’t disappoint on the music front either. The offbeat superhero series returns with a mix of classic songs, remixes and unique covers as the former students of the Umbrella Academy adjust to their new lives in the 1960s and try to stop the end of the world (again).

At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 1, despite the best efforts of Five to try and prevent the post-apocalyptic world he’d lived in from coming to fruition, doomsday still happened. Vanya, revealed to be the most powerful member of the Umbrella Academy, fired a beam of energy at the moon that destroyed it and sent a large chunk of moon rock hurtling towards Earth. In order to try and fix things, Five created a portal to transport all seven siblings back in time. He warned that things might get messy, and they certainly do.

Episode 1 – “Right Back Where We Started”

The jukebox is at its busiest in the first episode of The Umbrella Academy season 2, in which the family crash-land in 1960s Dallas, Texas. Featuring contemporary songs from Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra, along with a classic disco hit by Maxine Nightingale and a creative cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” this episode welcomes fans back in style.

• Maxine Nightingale – “Right Back Where We Started” – Allison, Luther, Diego and Vanya arrive.

Episode 2 – “The Frankel Footage”

In the second episode of The Umbrella Academy season 2, Diego has big plans for his time in 1963 – and they’re connected to a mysterious piece of film footage that Five investigates. Cinderella fans will recognize the classic fairy godmother tune “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo,” as famously recorded by crooner Perry Como and musical trio the Fontane Sisters.

• Perry Como and the Fontane Sisters – “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” – An old enemy returns to work.
• The Genies – “Who’s That Knocking” – Diego explains the plan to Lila.
• The Spencer Davis Group – “I’m A Man” – Diego fights a family member.

Episode 3 – “The Swedish Job”

In “The Swedish Job” we get to see exactly how Klaus started his own cult, while Luther strives to reunite with a sibling that he thought was lost. This episode features two classic hits along with a couple of lesser-known tracks.

• Bill Martin and Phil Coulter – “I Gotta Get The World Off My Back” – Klaus gets kicked out of a diner.
• Boney M. – “Sunny” – Klaus starts a cult.
• Joe Tex – “I’ll Never Do You Wrong” – Luther visits the Chestnut residence.
• The Stranglers – “Golden Brown” – Lila sneaks out.

Episode 4 – “The Majestic 12”

Both Klaus and Luther hit a low point in “The Majestic 12,” which leaves it up to Five and Diego to do some investigating at the Mexican Consulate. This episode features the unforgettable saxophone riff from Marva Whitney’s “Unwind Yourself,” and a beautifully-shot fight scene scored by Kiss.

• Marty Robbins – “Love Is Blue” – Lila’s training montage.
• Styx – “Renegade” – Klaus goes on a shopping spree.
• Helen Wilson – “Have You Ever Been Hurt” – Luther eats some barbecue.
• Marva Whitney – “Unwind Yourself” – Luther and Elliott share a laugh.
• Kiss – “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” – Five and Diego fight the Swedes.

Episode 5 – “Valhalla”

It just wouldn’t be The Umbrella Academy without a dance break. Last season the family danced to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now,” and this season Vanya, Allison and Klaus are twisting the day away to the sound of Sam Cooke’s “Twisting the Night Away.” This episode also ends with a haunting cover of Adele’s “Hello” by Swedish singer My Kullsvik.

• Peter Schilling – “Major Tom (Coming Home)” – Pogo’s training montage.
• Andrea Litkei & Ervin Litkei – “Hey Da Da” – Vanya, Allison and Klaus talk about love.
• Sam Cooke – “Twisting the Night Away” – Vanya, Allison and Klaus dance.
• The Interrupters – “Bad Guy (Billie Eilish Cover)” – Five fights Lila.
• My Kullsvik – “Hello (Adele Cover)” – The Swedes say goodbye.

Episode 6 – “A Light Supper”

Hargreeves family reunions never tend to go well, but they keep showing up for them anyway. It would be downright disrespectful for The Umbrella Academy to take a trip to the ’60s without featuring Aretha Franklin somewhere on the soundtrack, so Aretha serenades a flashback to Allison’s early days in her new world.

• Aretha Franklin – “Won’t Be Long” – Allison works at the hair salon.
• Jack Huddle – “An Old-Fashioned Christmas” – Ray asks Allison to dinner.
• Sam & Dave – “Hold On, I’m Comin’” – Ray tries on suits.
• Bob Cox – “I Live Alone” – Lila plays Bingo with her mother.
• Public Image Ltd. – “The Order of Death” – The Umbrella Academy arrive for a light supper.
• The Dead South – “In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company” – Luther and Diego find Elliott.

Episode 7 – “Öga For Öga”

In “Öga For Öga” Five has a plan that could fix everything, and all his siblings need to do is show up on time. What could possibly go wrong? The Backstreet Boys needle-drop in this episode is one of the highlights of the season.

• Tony Joe White – “Polk Salad Annie” – Five goes to a meeting.
• Zoe Muth – “Give Me A Reason To Stay” – Sissy turns on the radio.
• Baio – “Sister of Pearl” – Ben bonds with Klaus.
• Backstreet Boys – “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” – The Swedes visit Allison.

Episode 8 – “The Seven Stages”

In “The Seven Stages,” Five has another plan – and he needs Luther’s help to execute it. Meanwhile, Vanya is forced to confront her past. There’s only one song featured in this episode, but you have to love that band name.

• Butthole Surfers – “Pepper” – Vanya goes on a trip.

Episode 9 – “743”

In the penultimate episode of The Umbrella Academy season 2, four of Vanya’s siblings try to rescue her while Five and Luther continue with their own plan. Last season featured a cover of “Hazy Shade of Winter” by Gerard Way, the writer of the comic books upon which The Umbrella Academy is based, and this episode has a new original track from the former My Chemical Romance frontman.

• Generation X – “Dancing With Myself” – Five gets in a fight.
• Johann Sebastian Bach – “Partita No. 2 in D Minor” – Ben looks for Vanya.
• Gerard Way – “Here Comes The End” – The head of the Commission declares war.

Episode 10 – “The End of Something”

The Umbrella Academy‘s season 2 finale features plenty of action and some shocking revelations – as well as one final cover song to send the family on their way.

• Parra for Cuva ft. Anna Naklab – “Wicked Game (Chris Isaak Cover)” – The Umbrella Academy say their goodbyes.
