Caroline Forbes played an important part in the successful vampire TV show The Vampire Diaries. Portrayed by Candice King, Caroline started out as a human and one of Elena’s two closest friends. She became a vampire later on and had several romantic relationships along the way.

What’s more, she went from a rather naive girl to a badass young woman who didn’t let the world and other people or vampires control her. That’s why Caroline was a fan-favorite for many people but now that the show is over, there are still some unanswered questions the fans might have about Caroline.

10 Was Caroline In Love With Klaus?

Caroline and the original vampire Klaus Mikaelson had a complicated relationship in the show. Even though they didn’t end up together (Klaus moved to New Orleans and Caroline eventually chose Stefan), there was still a strong bond between them. But was it love?

Klaus repeatedly expresses his strong feelings for Caroline but she was a bit more reluctant. Yes, she kissed him and spent a night with him, but in the end, she might not have been able to forget all the wrong things that Klaus had done to her and her friends.

9 What Did Caroline See In Tyler?

For someone as smart as Caroline, she didn’t have the best taste in men. She dated Matt Donovan who was sweet and kind but that relationship didn’t last. Besides her ill-timed romance with Klaus, Caroline also dated Tyler Lockwood, and to say that these two were different would be an understatement of the century.

Tyler could be brash, impulsive, sometimes even rude to others, and while he did have his good traits, such as his strong love for his family, it’s still difficult to overlook that he and Caroline simply didn’t work together.

Let’s stay with Caroline’s and Elena’s friendship a bit longer. Besides Caroline’s jealousy at Elena and her strong desire to defeat her so-called friend in the Miss Mystic Falls competition, Caroline also had the tendency to date the same guys Elena did.

Almost like she wanted to get back at her or prove to the world that she was just as good as Elena. She dated Matt who previously had been Elena’s high school sweetheart. She dated Damon and wasn’t afraid to brag about it to Elena. And she also dated Stefan who once was Elena’s long-time boyfriend.

6 Why Did She Become Better As A Vampire?

Katherine Pierce changed Caroline to a vampire relatively early in the show. But Caroline’s transformation took an unexpected course. Usually, the transformation to a vampire brought out the worst in people, at least for the time being.

Damon, for example, became distant, Katherine grew even more calculating, and let’s not forget Klaus who completely went off the rails. Even Elena struggled with her new life. But Caroline seemed to handle it much better than others which just feels slightly suspicious.

5 Why Did Caroline Go Back Home After Her Transformation?

Caroline loved her mom Liz but she had a rocky relationship with her. She wasn’t happy with her dad leaving and also felt like her mom, who worked for the police, didn’t have much time for her. Liz knew about the existence of vampires and she hated them and feared them.

So when Caroline became a vampire, she, of course, returned home to live with her mom even though she could have stayed with the Salvatores, for example. Not only did she risk her mom’s life this way but also her own since Liz eventually found out the truth about Caroline’s vampirism.

4 Was Caroline Weaker Than Elena?

Elena and Caroline not only had verbal disagreements but they also had an epic fight in the show. Elena tried to kill Caroline and she almost succeeded. Caroline should have been stronger though since she turned into a vampire sooner than Elena and vampires grow stronger with age.

The fact that Elena would have killed her if Damon and Stefan hadn’t shown up suggests that Elena was actually stronger than Caroline who was older in vampiric years. Maybe it was because of Elena’s training with Alaric or the fact she switched off her emotions.

3 How Could She Have Had Children?

When Candice King got pregnant, instead of masking her pregnancy or temporarily writing Caroline off the show, the creators of the show decided to include her pregnancy in the storyline. The only problem with this? Vampires are technically dead and shouldn’t be able to bear children.

Rebekah, one of the Original vampires, wanted children so much and suffered because she couldn’t have them, so why was Caroline pregnant? The show explained it by a magical transfer of the unborn children to Caroline’s body, but in the context of all the audience knew about the show’s vampires, it didn’t really make sense.

2 Why Did She Move To Texas?

Caroline’s pregnancy was one of the weakest and strangest plot points in a show already filled with storylines that wouldn’t make any sense in the everyday world.

What’s even stranger is that Caroline chose to move to Texas with Alaric and she left Stefan behind. She was in love with Stefan for a long time but chose to leave him nonetheless. And to top it all off, she went to sunny Texas, one of the places where vampires definitely shouldn’t live.

1 Why Didn’t She Kill People?

At one point or another, all major vampire characters in The Vampire Diaries chose to turn off their emotions. Elena did it, so did Damon and Stefan, and Caroline also joined the club. But in contrast to her friends who happily killed people or at least fed on them, Caroline was surprisingly nice even as a vampire with no emotions.

She could have easily gone on a killing spree but she didn’t and some of the fans still wonder where her self-control originated.
