Throughout the entire Vampire Diaries series, there aren’t too many werewolves seen on camera. And although it’s impressive that there are other creatures in the show other than what the title suggests (vampires), audiences everywhere are often left wanting more werewolf interactions in the show. Considering this, it made sense that Hayley Marshall and Klaus Mikaelson met on The Vampire Diaries, conceived Hope Mikaelson, and started their own break-away show: The Originals.

Audiences wanted more werewolf content within the Vampire Diaries universe, but at this point, a lot of those werewolves are not included in the original show. Nevertheless, there are werewolves that do appear on The Vampire Diaries that are more kind than others. Whether or not they mean to, many werewolves in the series show selfishness and ambition that cause them to take the more evil route in their lives.

5 Hayley Marshall

Starting with the least evil, Hayley Marshall is an amazing friend and confidant to Tyler Lockwood. Hayley helped him through learning to control his ability to change (not on a full moon), which meant they spent lots of time together. So, not only is she quite selfless, but she’s also an amazing friend and would be there for anyone to the ends of the Earth.

She runs into trouble when she goes to Mystic Falls with Tyler in order to help him confront Klaus and not let him know that together they broke the sire bond. Klaus had more than a few quotes on The Vampire Diaries that proved he was actually good, and he and Hayley hit it off and conceived one of the most powerful beings in the entire universe, Hope Mikaelson, who is a witch, vampire, and werewolf hybrid.

4 Tyler Lockwood

Tyler Lockwood is slightly more evil than Hayley Marshall not because he is not as selfless and kind as she is but because she put her life on the line for her unborn child: Hope. But, he’s still a fairly good person and even though Tyler does a lot of confusing things that don’t make sense in The Vampire Diaries, his heart’s in the right place.

He didn’t treat Caroline Forbes the best, which definitely just makes him not a great boyfriend and friend, however, that doesn’t necessarily make him fully evil. In the show, historically, the only ever evil behavior he exhibited was in order to trick or deceive Klaus for the greater good. So, the times that he did break the rules, most fans feel it was completely valid.

3 Mason Lockwood

Throughout the entire show, one of the more frustrating characters is Mason Lockwood. As Tyler’s uncle, he’s not an amazing role model. And even though you do have to kill someone in order to trigger the werewolf curse, just like all werewolves on the show, there’s something off about the way he did this and just how aggressive and rude he can be, in general.

One thing Tyler definitely needs to work on is emotional availability, and Mason is not much of help in that area either. He is eviler than Tyler because of the way he killed someone, with malice and intent, whereas Tyler killed someone by accident.

2 Hope Mikaelson

The second most evil werewolf on The Vampire Diaries is Hope Mikaelson because of her story that continues in The Originals and Legacies. To make a long story short, she ends up becoming one of the more evil characters on Legacies, and it’s clear that the apple does not fall far from the tree when it comes to being Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter, who could be both a villain and a hero.

But Hope isn’t just a troublemaker, she also has a good heart and at least tries to resolve situations and protect those she cares about, even if this sometimes means doing some evil things. Without the presence of her father, however, it’s possible that she would be less evil than she is now.

1 Klaus Mikaelson

Coming in first place as the evilest werewolf on The Vampire Diaries, and out of any werewolf in the entire Vampire Diaries universe is Klaus Mikaelson. Not only is his behavior self-serving, he literally kills people for fun and whenever he needs someone for something. He tries to suck Elena dry of her blood in order to create as many hybrids as he possibly can. He comes into the show, guns blazing, and ready to burn any and all bridges he can. He’s evil to his core and doesn’t feel bad for anything that he does, as long as he gets what he wants.

In the breakout series, The Originals, he does become a better person because he’s forced to, through fatherhood, and is now responsible for someone other than himself. He improves, but it can’t erase all of the terrible, evil, vile things he has done only to serve himself.
