The Vampire Diaries: How Old The Heroes Really Are? Their True Age And Birthday

It’s a common rule in the fantasy and gothic genre that vampires and other supernatural creatures don’t age the way humans do. They either remain the same age they were during their transformation from human to supernatural beings, or the heroes age at a slower pace. The Vampire Diaries is no exception to this rule as its heroes can stay young for centuries if they’re lucky.

However, not all of the show’s main characters were vampires. Although it was rare, there were still a few residents of Mystic Falls that managed to stay human and live some form of a normal life. But do fans know how old they were specifically and where exactly they were born?

10 Tyler Lockwood

Tyler was one of the few unfortunate characters who met his demise on the show. Interestingly enough, Tyler’s birth month and the day are known – the 10th of February. The only issue is that fans don’t know exactly what year he was born in as there is much debate about whether he was born in 1992 or 1993.

Either way, his Zodiac sign is Aquarius. Tyler died in December 2017 when he was 24/25 years old. Just like the majority of actors on the show, Michael Trevino is older than the character he portrayed. Trevino was born in January 1985.

9 Bonnie Bennett

With all the things Bonnie’s been through, it’s easy to forget how young she is. Bonnie was born on the 5th of February 1993 which means her Zodiac sign is Aquarius. Bonnie died several times but always came back to life in the end.

She’s the last surviving witch of the Bennett family since her mother Abby became a vampire instead. Bonnie has no biological siblings other than her adoptive brother Jamie. Kat Graham, on the other hand, was born in September 1989, making her almost 4 years older than her character.

8 Matt Donovan

Matt Donovan is one of the few characters who remained human throughout the entire show, and never became a vampire, a werewolf, or any other supernatural creature. As a result, Matt might look older than his friends and classmates even though they were born in the same year.

Matt was born on the 26th of February 1993 so he’s a Pisces, and he and his friend, Bonnie, celebrate their birthdays the same month. Zach Roerig is almost a decade older than Matt since he was born in February 1985.

7 Jeremy Gilbert

Elena had a little sister Margaret in the books, but the show gave her a younger brother Jeremy instead (who later turned out to be her biological cousin). Jeremy was born on the 13th of October 1994 and his Zodiac sign is Libra.

Funnily enough, even though Jeremy is 2 years younger than Elena, his actor Steven R. McQueen is actually older than Nina Dobrev by six months, having been born in July 1988.

6 Stefan Salvatore

Just like all vampires, Stefan is much older than he looks. Stefan was born on the 1st of November 1846 and his Zodiac sign is Scorpio. When Katherine turned Stefan into a vampire in September 1864, he was only 17 at the time.

Stefan lived to be 171 years old since he sacrificed his life in March 2018 to save his brother Damon. Paul Wesley was born in July 1982 so by the time he started playing the 17-year-old Stefan, he was already in his late 20s.

5 Damon Salvatore

Damon is Stefan’s older brother but how old exactly is he? Damon was born on the 18th of June 1839, which means he’s 7 years older than Stefan. His Zodiac sign is Gemini. When Katherine changed Damon into a vampire, he was 25 years old.

Damon eventually turned back into a human and got to live out the rest of his human life with Elena. Having been born in December 1978, Ian Somerhalder was also older than his 25-year-old vampire Damon when he started playing the role in 2009, just like his on-screen brother.

4 Elena Gilbert

What every fan of the show might not realize is that Elena was actually older than most of her friends. Elena was born on the 22nd of June 1992 and her Zodiac sign is Cancer. Elena turned into a vampire in November 2010 when she was just 18.

She later became human again and lived out the rest of her life with Damon. Nina Dobrev was born in January 1989 and is 3 years older than Elena.

3 Katherine Pierce

Even though Katherine has the same face as Elena (as Nina Dobrev portrayed both of them), there are centuries between them. Katherine Pierce was born as Katerina Petrova in Bulgaria on the 5th of June 1473.

She became a vampire in April 1492 so she was 18 when she turned into a vampire, just like Elena. But unlike her doppelganger, Katherine didn’t get her happily ever after as she died in the end.

2 Caroline Forbes

Caroline is one of the few people who became a better person overall after her transformation into a vampire. Caroline is also slightly older than her friends Bonnie and Matt, having been born on the 10th of October 1992.

Her Zodiac sign is Libra. Caroline became a vampire in February 2010 when she was just 17. Unlike some of the show’s other vampires, she remained one. Candice King was born in May 1987, making her 5 years older than Caroline.

1 Niklaus Mikaelson

Appearances can be deceiving. Klaus was one of the oldest characters on The Vampire Diaries but it was difficult to guess this just by looking at him. Although his exact date of birth is unknown, Klaus is believed to have been born sometime before 990 A.D.

His mother, Esther, turned him into a vampire in Autumn 1001 and Klaus lived to see the 21st century. Klaus’s actor Joseph Morgan was born in May 1981 which means he’s almost a millennium younger than his character.
