Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth has revealed that she and The Voice coach Ariana Grande used to go on double dates together. Kristin appeared on season 21 of the singing competition show and acted as an advisor for Ariana’s team. The two have been friends for years and met backstage at the Broadway production of Wicked when Ariana was only ten years old. As Kristin tells the story, Ariana won a chance to go backstage and meet Glinda, portrayed by Kristin at the time, then she sang for the Broadway star and completely blew her away.

Ariana recently revealed that she would be playing the role of Glinda in the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Wicked. The singer dreamed of the role for years and even spoke to Jimmy Fallon on how she’s always had a manifestation gift, which led her to accomplish her dreams. Upon receiving the role, Kristin congratulated the singer on social media, sharing an old tweet where Ariana declared her goal to one day portray the part of the good witch. The two also starred alongside each other in the 2016 production of Hairspray Live! on NBC.

Kristin recently sat down with guest host Jay Leno on The Kelly Clarkson Show to reveal that she and Ariana had previously gone on multiple double dates. The talk show host pressed Kristin about working against Kelly by joining Ariana’s team. The comedian then asked her if it was true that she and Ariana used to go on double dates together. The Wicked star laughed before admitting, “we’ve had some dates, yea.” Kristin also clarified that she and Ariana did not date each other but went on dates with other men together. The singers are big fans of bowling and truffle pizza from Craig’s in LA.

Kristin also revealed that Ariana called herself to ask Kristin if she would be her advisor on The Voice. Upon hearing the news that Ariana would be taking over the role of Glinda, Kristin said the singer was destined for the role. Ariana also received congratulations and praise from former Elphaba, Idina Menzel. Actress Cynthia Erivo will be starring alongside Ariana as the movie’s lead.

Ariana and Kristin’s friendship is truly adorable, and it’s great to see the two have stayed close for so many years. Ariana has always looked up to Kristin, and it’s incredible to see her step into her shoes to portray the role of Glinda, which Kristin originated on Broadway back in 2003. Though the two kept quiet about who kept them company on their double dates, the lucky men were surely starstruck when both stars showed up for bowling and pizza. The Voice coach preps to play Glinda the Good, her double-date partner Kristin will surely be cheering her on.
