Cam Anthony was crowned the winner of The Voice season 20, meaning that Blake Shelton has now coached a total of eight contestants to win the show – a new record! It may not be surprising to longtime viewers of The Voice that Blake has long held the all-time record for most winners by a coach on the show. Alas, coaches like Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson did accumulate their fair share of The Voice seasons over the years, giving them the opportunity to catch up to the country star.

The first-ever Team Blake Shelton contestant to win The Voice was Jermaine Paul (season 2). That victory was followed by two other consecutive Team Blake wins: Cassadee Pope (season 3) and Danielle Bradbery (season 4). In later years, Blake also coached The Voice winners Craig Wayne Boyd (season 7), Sundance Head (season 11), Chloe Kohanski (season 13), and Todd Tilghman (season 18). This meant that, as a coach, Blake had accumulated seven wins on the show.

Now, Blake Shelton is expanding his own all-time record for coaching The Voice winners. With Cam Anthony being crowned the winner of season 20, Team Blake has now featured as many as eight The Voice winners. This makes Blake Shelton the record-holding coach on NBC’s The Voice, and it’s not even close. In second place are Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine, both of which have coached three singers to win the show. At this point, they need to coach at least five winners to even catch up to Blake – and that’s assuming that he wouldn’t win any other season in the meantime.

At the grand finale of The Voice season 20, Blake Shelton was also the coach with the most contestants in the running to win the show. Besides Cam Anthony, who won the season, Team Blake also had Jordan Matthew Young at the finale, who placed third. Kelly Clarkson got very close to coaching her fourth The Voice winner, as Team Kelly contestant Kenzie Wheeler got second place in season 20. Alas, this was the time for Blake to expand his record rather than for Kelly to improve her own track record. The fans didn’t know if Cam or Kenzie would take home the trophy, but most viewers are happy that Cam pulled this win.

Going into season 21, which will feature first-time coach Ariana Grande, it is safe to assume that Blake Shelton will brag even harder about his winning streak on The Voice. In turn, it will be even harder for Kelly Clarkson and John Legend to throw it back at him, and Ariana Grande will have to rely on her star-power to land a few great contestants on her team.
