Christmas came early for fans of The Voice, as Kelly Clarkson released her new Christmas single, “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You),” from her upcoming ninth studio album, When Christmas Comes Around, available on October 15. This album follows Kelly’s 2013 Christmas collection, Wrapped In Red, a modern holiday classic.

Kelly Clarkson first rose to superstardom in 2002 as the first-ever winner of American Idol. She has since released eight studio albums, including her first, Thankful, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard chart. Her second album, Breakaway, solidified her position as one of the top pop stars of the 21st century with the smash hits, “Since U Been Gone” and “Because of You.” She has had three #1 singles, including her first, “A Moment Like This.” She became a judge on the 14th season of The Voice in 2018. Kelly has earned three Daytime Emmy Awards for her latest venture, her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which debuted in 2019.

As reported by EW, a press release states that Kelly’s new Christmas album “explores a wide range of holiday emotions and experiences anchored by Clarkson’s incomparable vocal prowess.” The album, to be released by Atlantic Records, consists of 15 tracks, featuring original songs and holiday classics. It features collaborations with Ariana Grande, Chris Stapleton, and Brett Eldredge. In a statement about the first single, Kelly said, “My purpose for choosing this lyric for being the title of this project was to bring forth a sense of reality to the fact that we are probably all in very different places emotionally ‘when Christmas comes around.'” Kelly went on to explain that her new album is made to speak to everyone, no matter how they might feel during the holiday season.

The first single, “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You),” is a sassy breakup song, featuring Kelly’s bright vocals and a catchy chorus. Happy to be rid of her ex, Kelly sings, “I’ll be hanging every light I find in this house/Playin’ Christmas music so loud/This year Christmas won’t be quite so blue/And I’m gonna shout too much and dance in the snow/Drink enough to let us go/Christmas isn’t canceled, just you.” This song may be a new breakup anthem for the holiday season. The tracklist for the rest of the album promises a holiday confection of sweet carols and new melodies:

  1. Merry Christmas Baby
  2. It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
  3. Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You)
  4. Merry Christmas (To The One I Used To Know)

  6. Glow (feat. Chris Stapleton)
  7. Santa Baby
  8. Santa, Can’t You Hear Me (feat. Ariana Grande)

Kelly gave fans the gift of the modern classic, “Underneath the Tree,” on her first Christmas album. This new creation will surely be on many Christmas lists this year, but fans of The Voice may not be able to wait that long to have a listen. When the album drops, it will be Christmas in October.

The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
